Ok i blew a head gasket, How much of a pain in the a$$ is it to do the passenger side with the heads being studded. I hope i don't have to pull the motor out. Thanks Rob

Studs? Yep, U will have to pull the motor. (unless u have no HVAC setup)

You will have to pull the motor OR pull the studs out. If you have enought stud you could double nut them... otherwise you will have to cut slots in top to get them out.

I recently went through the same thing. There should be about 2-4 threads sticking up past the nut. I would suggest taking one of the nuts off, and goind to home depot or similar to get 2 nuts of same internal threads, but shorter height. They also have something called "Jam Nuts" which are short in height and made for the purpose of removing a stud by the use of 2 nuts.

Good luck!

Holy crap, 12.37 @ 123? I have found someone that launches worse than I do (j/k) :D

Just a question, why is it studded? Is that a common thing for guys that take their heads off often?

I just blew a gasket Saturday, not sure which one, I shouldnt have to pull my motor should I?

Yes i had bad launches but still running stock converter need 3600 stall. I studded mine for strength, and bolts intend to stretch and you have to replace them when it blows. If you have bolts you shouldn't have to pull your motor. Good Luck!!

head gasket

I can't speak for every buick with head studs, but I have changed head gaskets on the passenger side more than once without removing the engine, or studs. You need to remove the driver side motor mount, loosen the trans mount and let the engine roll over. It works on my GN, with A/C.

You can do as above or else modify the car forever so you don't have to worry about it.

I hammered a hole in the HVAC where the head restricted it then glassed over the hole with some fiberglass repair. It is invisible due to it's location and no more trouble for me. I've had the head off that way now a few times and it is the only way to fly IMHO.

how did you blow a headgasket? too much boost on the stock turbo? detonation from lack of octane? just wanting to know for future reference...i beat the hell outta my car with the stock combo and ran a best of 12.2 @ 112...the run before that i redlined on the knock gauge up to 13 degrees of retard because my boost was over 25 lbs on a stocker    i am so lucky nothing happened...that was with a high timing race chip too...seems to me my gaskets are stuck on the heads forever...but that could mean bad because it might be knocking causing problems with the internals...so far so good though

Don it surprised the hell out of me because I was only running 20psi in third gear with no knock on 110 octane. Maybe being on the stock injectors did me in, though others have gone faster on them, or Jaspers didnt use the right head gaskets when they rebuilt the motor. The only thing that made me mad was that it was on my first run and the car had a lot more in it, didnt even get to play around with it:mad:

The most knock I ever had was eleven degrees twice when I was tuning my alky kit and it didnt come on. I will find out more when I get it apart but that wont be for a while because I have to put a new cam in my boat:mad:

I would guess that's the reason.
