would like to know how you would change shift points. I changed my trans along with 3200 stall. It shifts way too fast. do you add weights to the governor?? TIA Aloha

Who's trans? and when does it shift too soon, WOT, part throttle, what rpms?

Jimmy's on the East Coast rebuilt the trans.Shifts early all the time.1st to 2nd about 2500 rpm. I don't know what they did to the trans though. I guess the basic rebuild besides the 10 vain pump, and kevlar clutches..

THanks

First check tv cable adjustment. You would have to rempve weight from gov. but I doubt thats the real problem and would have to remove an awful lot to raise them up from 2500.

A little more info first....

before you go changing, was this your trans they rebuilt, did it do since you put it in, what code trans? One thing to try if it's a lock up converter is make a short 5 min. drive w/o getting up to crusing speed with 4 pin connector on the trans disconnected, and see if it changes.

Sorry so long to get back to this. I blew a headgasket and was working on that.
No, this was not my trans they rebuilt. I bought it from a friend which was in the car he bought . He said he noticed it shifted fast too, but it was a full race with no street time. I don't know the code on th trans, I'll have to look, and I'll try the 5 min. test with connector out. I bought this trans and converter because my trans had high milage, but nothing was wrong with it.Figured I should buy that and rebuild mine before anything goes. Thanks for the help.:)

What would be considered as "cruising speed" ? Just dono't want to ruin the test results., Thanks,Paul

just avoid long high speed cruising so not to get the tranny too hot from having connector off. Even a 15 min 55mph cruise would be okay, but what your looking for is your shift points, at normal driving with connector off to see if they change?

Ok, just came back from the test drive, and shift points still the same, light throttle, about 1/8,1st to 2nd, at 2500, 2nd to 3rd, about 2800. Same as going 1/4 throttle as well. Could the stall be doing this? I've never had a stall before, and maybe I used to the D5. Should I do a pressure test?
Thanks, Paul

Ok, test results are. This was done at 1000 rpm

park min-160 max-225
rev min-200 max-225
nue min-110 max-225
od min-110 max-225
3rd min-110 max-200
2nd min-190 max-200
1st min-160 max-175

Did I get this right? Min was at reg, just 1000 rpm
max was with tv cable pulled all the way out at 1000 rpm.

Thanks again,
Paul

Nope... I would make a phone call to Chicago asap. They built it, they should be able to help you. It is called customer service after the sale...:D

Is that a Nope, I did it wrong, or nope, THEY did it wrong?:D I bought the trans second hand. It was built around 98' with about 1200 miles on it.

Yeap.. you did the press. check right and nope.. there not so good for a performance trans. But this in not the cause of the early shifts, I would as Bruce suggested at least try and give them a call as they would know the tranny better than anybody, and who knows maybe they will be helpful? it's worth a try, if no luck than shoot us another post and report back.

I talked to Jimmy's this morning, I guess it was Jimmy who I was talking to as he was saying "I" warranty the trans for 1 year. I told him about the early shifting and gave him the pressure numbers. He said sounds like something to do with the TV or the gov.,and the pressures sound alright. I told him it was built around 99' and he said there is new technology every year. Sounds like a nice guy. I guess I'll drop the pan and see what kind of weights are on the gov. Thanks again,
Paul

That is cool. Explain to him you are not trying to get somethin for nothin, you are just looking for a little help. The warranty thing is irrelevent as you are just looking for info or ideas.
If no luck, like Mark said, reply back. Good Luck

I wasn't looking for something for nothing. I asum he knew that since the trans was built in 99, but you know what they say about asume.... ass out of you and me. *L* I just asked him what I should look for. I decided to leave it alone till after the race this weekend, since it seems to shift alright at WOT.
Thanks for your help Mark, and Bruce. I'll let you know if I find anything next week.

Aloha oe,

Paul

Well, I dropped the pan, and couldn't find anything wrong. It had a GN gov. in it. It seems to work alot better with the orange stripe in there though. The shifts are a little firmer and higher. Took it to the track and left it in 2nd , manually shifting to 3rd. could only get a best of 13.0. Shifting way too fast. tried it manually all gears, and 12.0's all night. Guess I'll be installing a shift light:D My friend couldn't find the reciepts from Jimmy's back in 98, so I'm going to start over. Will Brices PR system raise my pressures, or are they all right? Do I just need a shift kit and servos? I'll be installing my old BRF VB, will that be an R&R task? Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any input.

Aloha. Paul

If your thinking about putting your BR vb in it, also put your gov. as well. Also yes on the Bruce's pr system to raise your press.'s I would think your vb, gov. and a new pr system your probs should be solved. Let us know how ya make out? :D

Ok, thanks, I'll be ordering those parts soon. I'll keep you posted, and thanks again.

Aloha, Paul
