Hey all you turbo guys,

I've been mulling over this crazy idea for a while but don't have the time or money to do anything about it:

Short-Block: Olds 350 Diesel - Stock
Heads: Olds 71-later 403 or maybe 455 heads-Stock mildly ported
Carb: Dual 930 CFM Predater Carbs
Intake: Offy 360 Dual-4
Cam: Custom-spec for motor
Turbo: Big turbo (Ford 7.3L diesel maybe) Huffing 25-33 lbs boost
Intercooler: Off same Ford Truck?

Lets see-
350 ci
33 lbs of intercooled boost
custom cam
1960 CFM of carbs
1000 hp sound reasonable?

maybe after ditching 20 grand on that motor you'll reach that goal....or if you want to go the cheap route it's going to hold a very short time before everything blows up....you just don't take a 350 here and strap on a huge turbo pushing 30+psi and boummm you have 1000hp on tap....physic just doesn't work like that

Cylinder pressures won't be a lot much higher than stock, remember these motors were designed for a compression ratio of 17+:1. . . .

maybe if you work it out with a 425 crank and a decent stroke it could become interesting...good thing with those blocks are the bore you can make giving you close to a 440cid and even higher ;)

Go to www.realoldspower.com Someone over there has a turbo Olds motor. The diesle block is heavy but it certainly won't break. The 403 low compression heads would flow better than the low compression 455s as long as you use the W31 sized valves and have a decent valve job.

I think the Predator carb may work better than a regular carb for a turbo application, provided it works as advertised. They claim the variable venturi carb matches the fuel flow to airflow mantaining a constant Fuel:Air ratio. Whadya think?
