Just got my 87 T-Type. On my way to the insurance office I was stuck in traffic in 95 degree heat. My check engine light came on while in the traffic jam. After i took off again it went off. This happened 3 times. The scan master was reading 204 F. Why would this light come on and go off? And how do i stop this from happening?

If the check engine light came on, the SM should have thrown a Mal function code, what code was it?

Is the oil psi dipping?

Check Engine

Not sure how to work the scan master too good. I will go take a look at it. And see if I can figure it out.

Just use the button on the left to scan through it. It looks more like it says "NAL" than MAL. It may have clear the code since the car has been turned off, I can't remember, but the next time the light comes on be sure to check it.

Usually when the light comes on at extended idle, but goes off shortly after driving at speed again is an O2 sensor problem. Usually the sensor has desensatized to the point it cools just a little too much and becomes inactive, usually setting a code 44, but could set a 13. Driving away raises temp enough to "wake" the sensor back up and act normal till it cools down again.

As was said, hit the button on the scanmaster till MAL is displayed, and codes will toggle.

Check engine light.

The error code was 44. Took it for another ride but did not get the check engine light again. Of course I was not sitting in traffic for 5 minutes and the coolant level never got above 180 F. what is #44?

Code 44 is lean exhaust, and in your case was most likely caused by a failing O2 sensor and not a real problem with the car. Use an AC Delco sensor, or Denso, RUN from a bosch unit....

Check engine light.

Thanks Jim, This is my first G bofy Turbo. It has been about 4 years since I had my 89 TTA and could not remember a thing. I never realize how noisy these car were on crappy roads.
