FYI for those building a garage...
28x55 and a max 16' ceiling, all steel construction, did all the work myself except for the slab, slab cost about $6k, materials for everything else was around $5k.
Now with that in mind, my previous house I had a garage built that had to match the house, it was about 25x50 but only 8ft ceiling, and it cost me about $23k. But it was no where near as nice as bishir's garage looks.

Any website to point to a good steel building manufacturer? I've been looking into that and like the aesthetics of a wood framed garage but realistically, I think I'd be better off with steel. I can whore it up a bit so it doesn't look like a factory. You picked good colors for that site. I likey!

I looked into a pole building (wood frame, steel siding 32x60 12' ceiling) when I built mine , got all the plans approved by the county, signed a contract etc when I was informed by my new neighbors that they would not be very receptive to a commercial type building on my property, so I went stick built.
Here is a link to the website of the people I was going to use to give you some ideas, I think they look good and pricing is VERY reasonable compared to the alternative.

I didn't use a pre-fabbed setup. I designed and built it from raw materials. 4" square poles, and 6" and 8" C-perling for the most part.
Places such as Mueller sells the raw materials and pre-fabbed units..they will also assist you in design like what kind of spans to use the 6 and 8" C on, distance between rafters, etc to meet city code.

Mueller is a nationwide distributor and are a little higher price than some of you local places.

Hey Bishir, don't take this the wrong way, but living in Florida, the hurricane state, wouldn't you want some concrete block construction? I know that it costs more but I'd hate to see that beautiful garage get blown away.

No offense taken, but it's built to 145mph wind codes which did cost me more than expected with the extra bracing and the walls are 2x6. It has survived hurricane Ivan and the eye of Dennis actually went over my house this year. I think it's going to be ok. PLus, being close to my house it had to match... this tread got resurected so it's done now.

Nice garage. I guess I'm almost a redneck because my detached 1 car garage is almost as big as my house. Sad thing is, the garage is only 300 Square feet.

That's easy! Move down to FL and buy my house! There is just that slight problem of hurricanes. Besides that and the gators, it's a nice place to live.

Richard, cool! Glad to see things are moving along for ya. If I could have done something different I would have put a door on the other side and had it a drive-thru type setup.

Think it ran me about 30K doing alot of the work myself
40x40 5 bays and 1 for tools and stuff
Lift cost me around 2k installed(and one guy unloaded and installed those posts himself!)
And yes its as big as my house
Unfortunetly will be moving in < a year
