I've heard of an led home lamp coming out soon...power savings will be incredible, almost No heat.greater life,etc......the only problem is the projected price is $65 each.
Well, that had my wheels turning for months.I was Xmas shopping to today so I bought the parts needed to build my own prototype....
I bought a 100 led light strand for $15,a small chrome ball to mount the LEDs in,and I used a base of and conventional bulb so my prototype will screw right in.
After some study, about 33 LEDs are In series with a resistor.I used two of the three sections unevenly mounted.....as you can tell by the pic......
Turned out good.the LEDs aren't bright enough.so ill be on the look out for brighter LEDs to use.....thought I would share..eventully I plan on building a house full and save some on my electric bill.....

You Fk'n Einstein you..... Good thinking man! Keep in mind, With some LED's means The Higher the output, Higher the heat!!

So we've got some fixtures in the house with those decorative bulbs in them and for those applications LED's are about the same in cost.

good job on that, something I wish I could do. Have any more details? whats the total draw on that as far as watts?

Thanks guys....I plan on the same amount of lummens as a 80 watt regular bulb, but the leds will only use 9 watts.stayed on on night and the light was cold...I've dreamed up my next design already (while sleeping,lol)...ill post up prototype #2 when it comes alive.

We should work together on this. You keep perfecting your affordable LED lightbulb and I'll work on getting it powered by a potato.

Can you make me one where the chrome base spins around and the leds are all different colors, maybe even flashing? I missed out on the 1970's, and i'd like to start living them now. :D

But seriously, that is a great idea. rRefine it some, and save yourself a bunch of money. Surely you could put more than 33 of them in there?

I found some LED bulbs pretty cheap...

Not to steal your thunder... and I think what your doing is great, but I wanted to mention this website just to show people that LED bulbs are available.

LED Light Bulbs, LED Lights for Homes

Some were about $4 for low powered ones. The high power ones were $16-20.

i think he is aware of those and trying to copy at a lower cost
