So what kind of firewood do you guys get? From where? I finally convinced my dad to light the fireplace, our house has 2 of em never used sense 1988! I'm thinking just like back east where just 1 starter log and some oak/hickory/maple logs. Any off topic post is strictly not welcomed, I just really want to get some opinions and maybe some cool stories about FIRE, sense its been chilly outside.

I get those logs from Walmart that burn for 8 hours or so. not as smoky either

thought it was illegal in cali to burn now ?

central heat an air works good

When I had a house in West L.A. with a fireplace I used whatever wood lawn chairs & furniture the neighbors had outside. How's that for on-topic?

since you ask

the harder the wood, the longer it lasts!

hmmmm is that on topic?

actually yes that is definitly on topic; to be specific Maple, Oak, and Hickory burn at the top 20% in terms of BTUs

so I just went to a local wood yard, closed.....
went to local store and they had a rack of oak for $8 and a starter log for $2, not bad....
go home ready to light it dad says nope, "not before my competition next week. After that you can have as many fires as you want but not right now"

I'll check walmart thanks Flaco, do you use just the starter log by itself or do you add dry wood to the starter once lit? Hope everyone is staying warm, it should be PERFECT f'ing turbo weather for you guys.

What's all this non-sense about sitting at home and making fires when the air is nice, cod and dense outside?
You guys should be ashamed....

Go get in your Turbo Buicks and do some Mustang hunting!

But if you insist on making a fire...word of advice on those waxed logs that burn for 8 hours.
The wax gums up your plume and chimney and trips stuff up there...after a few years of that...you can get a chimney fire...

Burn real wood if you can do it without the green police smashing your door in....or convert to a gas fire place.

The log that I buy says it helps keep your chimneys clean and does not clog it up.

One way to know for sure if you've been burning the same logs for a few years.

Stick your head in there and inspect the upper part of the fire place and flue for waxy build up...
Do this preferably when a fire is not burning... or you'll just need to be quicker about it.
If it's in the fireplace and on the flue...then it's up your chimney too.

If none...or minimal...then you know the marketing hype they printed on the packaging is true and you've been burning a clean log.
Just sayin'...not all of them are created equal.
...and chimney fires suuuuuuuuuuuck....

...and you might even find a psycho x-girlfriend in there:eek:...or your doctor:confused:.....or both....:confused:
