No i wasnt smoking in the car, but it looked worn so i just wanted to see if it worked... It didn't and then it blows the fuse out to the radio and other things stop working? Why is this happening? besides just leaving it alone and not pushing it in any more because that would solve the radio from going out but would not fix it.. thanks in advance. Caleb.

The element is likely shorted. Lighter sockets can short too. Radio bezel has to be removed to replace the socket, so try a new lighter first.

That happens in my (please dont laugh, its the car i drive now until i get my TR) 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais.

When my brother pushed in the cig lighter when he drove it when i hade hernia surgery, It blew the radio, horn, and locks. It does it every time. I dont smoke. so to solve it, I just pulled the lighter end out...Problem solved.
