I just bought a set of used alloy cragar 5 star rims, the car they were on was sitting for 2 years. When i tried to clean them some dirt and crap came off but the majority of the dirt is still on there, i tried everything to get the dirt or whatever it is off of it but nothing happened. I tried Soap and water, Carb cleaner, goof off, paint thinner, mineral spirits and a steamer not one drop came off, What the hell else is there? do i have to have them sanded? Please someone , ANYONE! tell me what to do!

P.S. the crap on it is a redish brownish color with just a hint of black stuff!

Thanks

Fine steel wool.

You could also try Muriatic Acid (used for controlling pH in swimming pools). It's nasty stuff, so tests it on the backside, wear rubber gloves and don't breath.

You can find it as PH down in the swiming pool section at walmart.
