cleaning aluminum on steering wheel

I live in a very humid area. The aluminum steering wheel is stained with brown spots. With out harming the gray wheel, what works to get the aluminum back to its original look?

Try steel wool and some quick detailer... worked great for me. Make sure you go with the grain though[the /quote]

That is iron oxide on your steering wheels.

Aggressive rubbing ruins the grain tho! I would like to see a start to finish on the reconditioning of the spokes.

Mild brushed steel is the steering wheel. Fine steel wool will not harm the grain. Tape the leather off and use a qtip with a little naval jelly. That will get rid of the rust. Then wipe clean. Spray with windex and chase the grain with fine wool. After, get a little machine oil on a rag and wipe the blades down. Do the oiling once a year and you'll be good.

Eagle one wheel polish "in the rag" also works well and as long as you rub with the grain it will come out nice.

Teeth brush with Castrol Super Clean prettied mine up. Once years ago, I wadded up alum foil and gave it a good scraping and that made it shine like a new nickle.

been using windex and paper towels. follow up with a little light oil on a rag - good for a year or so. less maintenance - more time with some good sippin' bourbon!

if you let it get rusty -you'll need more than windex and paper towels - and have less time for sippin' bourbon!
