How many have had close calls and are lucky that the outcome was not worse?

Going home from high school taking a Friend in my 65 GTO.
He asked so how does this thing go. I said I will show you.

I am driving next to a school long straight road with slight uphill.
I stop, rev the tri-power 389, dump the clutch, GTO heaves forward, power shift into 2nd with tripower ROARING.
Getting ready to hit 3rd. BANG POP!
My huge deep dish CRAGAR SS on drivers side pops off.
Thank goodness my gto had ladder bars.

The tire/wheel combo goes rolling off toward sidewalk with some kids walking there having to dodge it..

Meanwhile I am doing everything to keep the GTO straight & stop.
The ladder bar was digging in sparking all over the place.
It actually made the car pull left.
Again good thing no car was coming the other way.

After coming to a stop & checking my underpants
the 5th or 6th graders run up to the car & say that was cool!.
you had sparks trailing your car man..

Deep dish cragers without extra long axel studs don't work.
trust me

Back around 1990 here in St Louis we had a terrible ice storm. I was about 20 and my only source of transportation was a 1971 Chevelle SS conv. I had bought earlier that year.

After work late one night I agreed to drive to pick up a friend, let him stay at my place, and give him a ride to work the following morning due to the weather.

HECK, I wasn't afraid to drive in this stuff :D

On my way there.............driving on a 4 lane divided highway coming down off the bluff twoard the river.............I drove on to an overpass. Soon as I was on the overpass the car started to slide and spin

The car continued to spin until I cleared the overpass..............heading forward...........I had spun completely around!!!

It should go without saying I had to pull over, check my pants, and think about what had just happened for a while.

Coulda been the end of me :p

If memory serves me right you had 4 lugs on that tire too!
Well, how about when the front rt tire came off the 69 Firebird? We had a friend that liked a girl that hung around on the other side of town. He rushes his work on his car to do a drive by hoping to see her, of course she's not there so he does a big burnout and we leave. On the way home up the highway (at about 100mph) the car starts making some thumping noises. Luckily the exit came up soon. The road was long and steep downhill. The guy goes to take a right and the left front tire pops off and starts rolling down the hill. It's something like a g60 15 with a Keystone Klasic in it. As it's rolling down the hill it hits a curb and goes flying over a little kid on a tricycle. It lands flat. It would have killed the kid if it hit him. The rotor cut a groove in the pavement. Turns out the guy was in such a rush to see this girl that he forgot to tighten the lugnuts. Yikes.

Well about 2 years ago I was in my 93 Z28 that I had at the time and was out with a girl that I had interest in. Well needless to say stupid me trys to impress the girl by trying a crazy powerslide into a turn and well lets just say I wound up in the same lane of traffic that I started in just headed in the opposite direction (head on with traffic) :D and I thank God to this day that no cars were on either side of the road or else I don't even want to think about what could have happend. That was the most scared I have ever been in a car.... To top things off after I was able to get the car under control and turn around I pulled over to make sure the car was OK, smoke a cigarette and was completely oblivious to my passenger :D Not a smart move on my end as that did note score any points nor did it make things last with us. But that was my screw up so I deserved it.

i would have to say in the early 90's with my 67 chevelle 396 showing off smkoking the sh*t out of my tires as im slamming the car into 2nd the hood comes flying up i finally stop with in inches of someguy washing his car he kept thanking me for not hitting his car as i was trying to get my hood down . i finally got home and got the hood off and went back out without a hood. and somebody looking at the engine says wehat the hell is that it wound up being one of the hood hinges wedged inbetween under airfilter and maniffold ahh did i feel dum

A few months ago I smashed up my daily driver, so while that was getting fixed, I daily drove the GN for about a month. Well it was raining one day which means some challenging driving w/ the GN....it still has 3 different brands of no-name tires as when I bought it. So since I didnt have the best traction to begin with....I come up to an intersection to turn left...no traffic around an I have the green. I start turning at about 25 mph and completely lose traction...so here I am doing a complete 360 in the middle of the freakin intersection! Needless to say, I never go through turns in the GN at more than 10mph anymore. And thankfully the semi that was nearing the intersection didnt get there 10 seconds sooner.

How about having deer fur in both pass side wheel well moldings:eek: on the GN. I was heading home from my girlfriends around 12 am going about 65-70 when out of no where theres a deer in the fast lane of the highway. I slamed the brakes as hard as I could and turned the wheel slightly left. Well the poor deer got smacked by the semi that was next to me. We both stopped,I checked my pants and went home. The next morning is when I found the deer fur stuck in both pass side wheel well moldings, thank God I didnt have the X flares on the car back then
