OK, I'm dreaming of a new toy. Which would you buy, or name another NEW car or NEW truck, and why?

:D :D :D

Of the three (with practicality not an issue) - Lightning.

If practicality were an issue, GTO

I'm too tall for a Cobra so that's just right out.

P.S. I'm biased - I had to sell my Lightning recently because of a baby on the way :D

Other than what you've mentioned, and in terms of toys, I would pick up a used C5 and mod the crap out of it.

Even though it is a FORD I would say LIGHTING!

I have thought of a Lighting but need Extra cab. I don't want to pay more just for the harley one. :(

I wouldn't suggest you buy the lighting or mustang as the new models (cobra, lighting) are only a year away. Unless you like the current model better. I would pick the GTO or Dodge truck. When you do decide give me a call so I can help you. Thanks.

Corvette, best bang for da buckz. :)

Who am I kidding, got cash for one, but ain't giving up my just broken in WE4. ;)

CTS-V in the second year might be my second choice.

Go stock market!!!! :D

If you're thinking about a new Lightning, do your research on the next model of the Lightning-- it's going to be out in not very long with significantly upgraded power.

It will be devaluation city for the current models once it hits the road.

Please explain this one. Just saw an '03 Cobra with the KB supercharger on it for $27500 with 570 rwhp. I wonder how much it would cost to make that much with a LS1 car not using nitrous. I have had the chance to own or drive all these choices but the GTO and would have to say that you'd be hard pressed to get more for your money than an '03 Cobra. Mine put down 404 rwhp with just an air filter. The performance gap between the two is why I lost all interest in a new GTO with it's whopping 350 hp for $34k or so.

Funny you should bring this up. We've been having kinda the same discussion over here.

I guess it all depends on what you like.

1. Do you want a truck as a hot rod? May be some minuses there. I personally like a car better than a truck as my hot rod.

2. Are you married to GM? Lots of folks here are, or are just Ford haters. I have to admit Ford seems to be bringing more to the enthusiast table than GM nowadays.

I personally like the GTO platform, but don't really care for the looks of the car. I think GM is headed in the right direction EXCEPT for the looks of the car, which is easily changed by GM engineers in the future. I really don't think they will stay with the design of this car for long. But it can be made to perform. Great motor. The sticker of the one I posted pics of cost $31k.

I would wait a year or two for a Supercharged Cobra or Z06 Vette before I made my decision. Think of this the market is good put the money in safe investments as Blue Chip stocks and buy a possibly better car latter.

Okay used Ferd Mustang vs. New Corvette.

You can put blowers and NOS and turbos and everything on a Vette as well.

New for new there is no comparison. :)

For $27K I could have a Stage II Buick too.

Buy what you want that's why they make so many different cars.

By the way what's the difference in using NOS or an added supercharger in making HP?

Actually cash in da bank and two Buicks in da driveway is my first choice. :)

The SRT-10 is pretty slow for what it is. I just tuned this Lightning, slightly built motor and a kenne bell supercharger @15psi. Stock Manifolds and Cats. 507RWHP 576Ft lbs ....the torque and HP lines are so flat its crazy. It's also a little scary to get suck a big heavy truck sideways on the street :) Used to have a Lightning shop truck here that was pretty fun and strong.

Priced a turbo kit or SC for a LS1 vette lately?
As for the NOS, I'm a convenience guy. I like the HP/TQ there all the time. I'm not saying that one is better than the other because I would love to have a Z06 myself. I was talking more of a $$ per HP type of deal.

I almost had the wife talked into one of those until she saw a couple of old ladies driving one. :)

Theres a reason why more Corvettes are sold than Cobras. Not everyone is looking for 1/4 mile performance. The ride and refinement along with a potent motor are the reasons why a Vette sells. People do not buy Vettes to drag race them. (usually). I totally agree with you on the GTO. I still can't beleive people would plunk down the same money as a Cobra for one.

Because some people are interested in actually turning too.

Corvette suspension >>>>> Mustang's 1978 Fairmont chassis

My advice - go drive all three, and then get whatever you like the best. :)

Sidebar...I do find it curious that some people on a Turbo Buick Forum seem to put a high premium on handling. Interesting.

No offense intended.

Hands down I would get the Cadillac CTS-V...black *drools*

start modding that thing and you will have a damn Cadillac walking on EVERYONE! of course if I had the money:)
