Good Day Folks,
I have a pop at high boost conditions.A recent article in GMHTP Mag described a similar pop on a dyno test.I did a thread search and read the first two pages of suggestions and have come to the conclusion that I need to test the coilpack/ign module.First what is the ohm test ?what values am I looking for in this test?
The other question I have is "is it imperitive that the coil and mod be matched?
I have seen vendors suggesting this.
Oh one more question,on a really stock car do I need a high output coil pack?
thanks

1. Put an VOM across the terminals of each of the 3 coil pairs.

2. 11,000 to 13,000 ohms.

3. No. Never heard of matching.

4. No. But remember, some of these units are bad right out of the box. Test before you buy.

BTW, a Casper's tester is a better test.

:)

Have you considered switching to the Type II ignition? Check GNTTYPE.ORG. My car seemed to be acting just a little off, my car had come with a spare coil pack so I swapped it on. Both sets of coils seemed to measure fine. I got a Type II from a junkyard with coils for ~$80. They are plentiful, cheap, the 3 coils are replaceable separately, aftermarket coils are available as well. My car worked much better.

Make sure you have a good ground through the bracket at the rear bottom of the module to the manifold or else it will start acting wonky. I also ran a braid from the bracket to the fire wall ground near the wiper motor.

Thank you both for the info so far,
I will check the car ouy this weekend.Strikeeagle,If the car passes the ohm test I will contact some one in my area to find a Casper's tester.BJM, Iwill look at the info posted on the type II coils and go from there.
Once again thank for the info
