Ok, who here has it, and what are you stipulations. I thought I had the ideal insurance, 'till I had to PULL THIS LADY'S TEETH to get her to tell me, that they ONLY cover auto accidents, and theft from your garage. I also had to pull teeth to get her to tell me that if your car gets stolen or totalled within 60 days, you won't be renewed. Ya gotta go find another home.
I can't believe I had to wrestle with her to get this information. What the hell are these people thinking? Is this how they screw you? If I hadn't talked in circles for about 20 straight minutes, I would have never gotten that information. She was trying her hardest not to say "basically, after your policy starts, you should keep it in the garage till after 2 months, or you won't get renewed." I was like HOLY S**T man, were you going to tell me this? Why didn't you just tell me to keep it in the garage for the first 2 months right off the rip lady??? These people seem shady, and pointless in my opinion.
It's in my opinion, that if you had such a nice car, that it would make you seek out some high speed 'collectible car' insurance for, then wouldnt you have already made your garage inpenetrable? So why would I need your insurance to cover theft from my garage? That's stupid. I need insurance to cover theft FROM OUTSIDE my garage! Otherwise, I'D JUST KEEP IT LOCKED IN MY GARAGE! LOL.
So what insurance do you guys use? I obviously won't be utilizing USAA's 'American Collectors Insurance' anytime soon. Anyone have a policy that actually protects their buicks OUTSIDE their garage, for FULL VALUE? I'd actually like to drive this car once and a while.

Give Grundy a try, you'll be surprised at how much they DO cover. They even cover you personally if you fall at a car show where your vehicle is parked.

I have USAA on my vehicles. I had the American Collector's as well. After reading the fine print, decided to drop it as it didn't cover much. Switched to Grundy, right at the same price of $260 a year. ACI would cover me up to $18,000 no questions asked though.

Did they (ACI) make you take pictures and send them as well before coverage began? I had to take 5 pictures of the car from all angles and they wanted a pic of the car in the garage, and the garage as well.

I have been with Haggerty for years and have never heard of any of the stipulations you have mentioned. The only stipulation they have, the car must be kept in an enclosed garage, other than that, no other issues that I can see as a problem.

The coverage is complete, probably better than my regular auto insurance. I had an engine fire several years ago that cause major damage, although I had to fight them a bit on final costs, they forked over big dollars to make the car right, and renewed me without a problem.

Hagerty is good! Just switched to them and so far so good. GS car only as I have a daily driver coverage policy with State Farm for my Turbo Buick. Grundy declined me as I mentioned that I planned to use my cars for an occassional errand. That was enough for them to turn me down. Think about it... you can't stop at the hardware store on your way home for a joy ride/ pleasure cruise! Hagerty has no problems with that. Your choice....

But as I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think Haggerty allows you to drive to work (AKA; daily driver).

True TurboDave. Hagerty requires you send them the declarations page on your daily driver for collector insurance. They may have a daily driver type policy but I didn't explore that?

so pretty much NO insurance covers you car, if you decided to go to a restaurant one nite. I dont drive my car to 'places' except car shows, and the occasional cruise. but who in their right minds, will do a 4 hour cruise for example, and not pull in somewhere to eat, or visit for a minute? That's just bull**** in my eyes. If i cant pull in somewhere to eat, or have a drink real quick, whats the point then? So pretty much, only theft out of the garage is covered then.. brilliant.... I guess Im just stickin to my alarm, my club, my column lock, and my PLPD coverage then lol. If a traditional state farm policy will only cover the car for accident/theft as a N/A buick regal, and the classic car insurance will only cover theft out of your garage, then why pay someone 500 bucks a year for nothin? Owning these cars are a pain in the ***....

There are lot's of "regular" insurance companies that will cover these cars, and to varying degrees depending on how much one wishes to spend.
Agreed value, stated value, etc. etc.
The classic car insurers like grundy, hagerty and those types will cover the car, it's just that you can no longer use it as a daily driver (work, trips to the mall, etc).

Key words. I just went thru all of this with these insurance companies... DAILY, to me, it trying to drive it say, 2-3 days a week. All I want to do, is know, that if during one of my 4 whole joy rides a year, if I decided to pull in a restaurant for some chow on the way back to my garage, and it gets stolen from there, I will be covered. Noone yet to date as agreed on this. How in the hell do you consider puttin 300 miles a year on a car, a 'daily driver' ? There's always a catch 22. All the companies I asked, if they would insure me against theft outside of my garage, would only cover my car as an 87 buick regal... about 2 thousand dollars worth... Ya cant win for losin I guess.

So to get my stated value, it's gotta get wrecked, or stolen from my garage. To get covered from theft outside of my garage, I have to use normal insurance, in which case Ill get a grand total of 1,115 dollars per kelley blue book..... great.

I don't think you'll find any collector insurance that covers the car as a daily driver. Remember, you are only paying a couple hundred a year for the coverage. That is the reason you can declare value a car and pay a penny a day for insurance.

As far as driving your car to a restaurant one night, I don't have any stipulations on my policy saying you can't do that.

thats what im sayin, how is 400 miles a year a 'daily driver' ??????
and your company says its ok to get it stolen from a restaurant? you better call em again. I bet you theyll, after 30 minutes of twisting their arm, theyll finally admit that its not covered....nobody yet has said yes to it, after talking to their supervisors supervisor.

Anyone else with any good ideas? I need an insurance company worth a dam. Someone help. I would actually like to drive my car.

If it's not on the dec page or exclusion page, then yes, they will have to pay.

Nowhere in my policy does it state that I can only drive to shows, parades and such.

Grundy, 3 pics, no capped mileage and can drive ofr personal use and reasonable priced.

for hagerty? wanna bet? I just got done talking to them, for quite a while, and after asking them repeated specific questions, they declared that me stopping into a restaurant/store real quick, on the way home, was indeed considered 'destinational driving' and they would not cover it. Asked them 3 times, in 3 separate scenarios, JUST to make doubly sure I'd be covered. Cuz I KNOW if I stopped at a place to eat, and didn't keep the car under my direct supervision, it would disappear without a doubt. I was quite specific. And my answer was no. So that was that. Hagerty and USAA's collector car insurance both said no to me. I've yet to call grundy. I'm excited there's one more I don't know about. Hopfully they'll say yes :)
I don't care about milage caps (i rarely drive my car), people with less than 10 years of driving experience not being able to drive my car, having a daily driver less than 10 years old yadda yadda yadda. I'm good with all of that. NOONE TOUCHES, much less drives my buick. It's triple locked with an alarm on it, in a locked garage, with two pitbulls in the yard, and the driveway is too narrow for a flatbed. The back of the garage is up against a huge brick wall as well. The chances of any accidents are pretty slim, as I never drive it. It's just that when I DO wanna take her out, I want to know I'm covered if I walk out one day and it's gone. That's my ONLY concern. Period.... One more company to call. Will let you guys know what grundy says.
Regardless of what the policy says, If the supervisor there says one thing, and your policy says another, then right there I'm suspicious of whether or not they even know what the hell they're talking about. And when it comes to my Sophie, you better know what you're talking about lol. If it comes down to it, I'll wire my shifter handle with 12 amps if I have to.

In deference to what was said earlier about Grundy, I'll bet you'll get the same answers as you got from Haggerty and USAA.

I have it on my GN through American Family. Its insured to $21,500 for $225 a year. No restrictions beyond the ones put on by the state when you get collector plates.
