I was wondering if anyone has any experience / info on cam sensor gear wear when using the comp billet roller cams with the bolt-on drive gear.

I have a new 210/210 roller. At 140 miles I pulled the cam sensor out and found some noticeable gear wear. Not too serious, the gear wasn't trashed by any means but there was some wear. After another 140 miles I checked it again and it looks about the same, so it seems to be "broken in" and maybe will not wear too much more. I plan to continue monitoring it every few hundred miles.

I have a HV front cover, oil pressure is normal. (14PSI hot idle 10w40, 40-60 PSI cruising) Cam endplay was set properly.

I have seen 1 other comp billet roller cam and cam sensor that looked exactly like mine with some wear, with about 1500 miles on them.

I have no experience w/ your problem, but any metal floating around in the engine is unacceptable.

Just an update for the tech archives.

The wear on the sensor gear seems to be stabilized. 800 miles on it now and the sensor gear still looks the same. Can't see any wear on the cam gear itself.

That's why most of us use oil filters. It would be nice if we could figure out how to build an engine that doesn't wear, but so far, that seems to be real hard to do. And as long as there are metal parts wearing, there will be metal "floating around", to some degree. Not sure about the cam sensor gear, but there used to be a bronze gear you used, when you had a billet cam, since the billet cam drive gear wasn't compatible with the stock gear material. That was certainly true for distributor drive gears, and seems like it could apply to the cam sensor, too. But this is a subject that has been covered many times, so I'm sure that any problems have been resolved.

I haven't seen any posts from anyone with first hand experience using a bronze gear yet.

Seems like most folks are chalking it up to a mysterious misalignment between the cam and front cover, and also use of a high volume oil pump.
