Here's the problem (Windows XP P4 2.8G)

My computer keeps locking up once you touch the keyboard. It's not the keyboard or mouse, because I am using them right now on a backup computer.

When you boot up Windows XP, it asks for a name and password. I usually skip this buy pressing OK with the mouse. If I were to hit return or any key.. BOTH the keyboard and mouse lock up. CONT+ALT+DEL does nothing. Safemode does not help. Restore did not help.

When you goto RUN or SEARCH or even WORD, the second you hit a key... mouse and keyboard LOCK UP.

What is wrong?

Are they PS2 devices ?? Maybe something got screwed up in your device manager...If they are, try a USB Keyboard and mouse, if USB, try PS2 to rule out a hardware problem on the motherboard and it may sound silly but make sure they are plugged into the right jacks, they will interchange...have seen it happen

I would slap another keyboard on there for just for giggles to see what happens.

What kind of PC is it?

I work for a school district and we have seen a lot of things like this. 90% of the time it is a crappy motherboard. They (IBM) used low quailty capacitors.

open the box up and look at the caps, see if any have exploded, you might see a little brown/tan goo.
