I allowed someone (little brother) to use computer, now I get this stupid red shield in my taskbar. It keeps popping up "you have a security problem". I can't find the source of the program to delete. It stops surfing and sends you to a page that is Antivirus 2009.

I already have Norton, and don't want to buy this stupid thing. PLEASE HELP!!

Here is a more in-depth and technically challenging method of removing the infection. Though it may be more difficult than the previous post it will likely be more successful.
Let me know how it goes.

Well there goes four hours I will never get back

Thanks Swing, I tried something similiar

How to remove Antivirus 2009 (Uninstall Instructions)

there is a program to download and use to scan/remove. the computer moves so slow it has taken all afternoon to get it to download and begin. should know more when finished.

My antivirus was on, but out of date. It seems this program is only around three weeks old.

Will update when scan is finished

we just got nailed on our computer. not sure how they got passed our spyware w/antivirius but we came home thursday night to a dead computer and when we tried to fix it all files had been corrupted and were unsavable. my old ladies in it and nothing she tried could bring it back. had to reformatt the hd and start all over. will be purchasing a ext hd SOON. lost a ton of stuff. i wonder what kind of no life having losers sit around with no chance of getting laid by any one that they will just try to **** over people because they hate thier life.

working with the malware now, so far not much luck. in the process of full scan now. there are some manual procedures to remove files individually, but might do more harm than good.

hopefully the malware will get it

Well, I am using the office computer again

Still getting a few more popups than I used to, but the stupid little red shield is gone!!

Malware seems to have fixed the problem for now.

Also, had to go into Windows Explorer and find actual file!!

It may be more than just that one bug. If you're getting slammed with pop-ups, look to make sure you don't have extra browser tool bars installed. They are great for dropping mal/ad ware on your computer. Run the latest firefox with no extra tool bars at all:)

Well I killed it!

Managed to get all the pics and business docs off and got a bit more liberal with my removal methods and now it is suspended in the enternal boot up!

Looks like complete reformat and reinstall of windows, now where did I put those stupid disc

Do a search for XPAIO (XP ALL IN ONE) It has all the oem builds on one disk that you can download and use your OEM product key for the install. Download your drivers and you're off and running again. After service packs and AV install:)

klrv6,

Do you have the actual link? When I did a google search on XPAIO it showed a link to the Windows XPAIO Desk Reference for Dummies 2004.

Thanks

Man, It used to be all over the net. Torrent sites may still have something. I am very glad I have a copy. Let me know if you need anything like that. Santa is feeling kind this time of year;)

It's best to have 1 OS drive and 1 data drive. This makes it a piece of cake to re-format and re-install the OS.

I just went thru that headache as well...

4 days of constant virus attacks, and about 6 hours to fix it all!

you get rid of one, and up pops another virus.

I had to use a combo of 4 different programs to get rid of everything, plus manual removal of a few things:

malwarebytes
security task manager
Regrun (worked great, but its a 30day trial subscription)
Finally AVG 8.

To those using IE:
I read that there is a security breach recently that can't be fixed (yet), so you should just dump IE and start using firefox.

Once switching to firefox, you'll never go back to IE. Its a much better browser (and more secure), and you can import all your bookmarks, etc., that you were using in IE. Of course, you may have to download some plugins (for videos, flash, etc.).

It sounds like it's bound up in the registery. Have you tried taking the drive out and installing in another machine as a slave and scan it (with fully up to date patches, anti-virus, etc)? I've found that is sometimes the only way to clean some really nasty bugs out, beyond fdisk, format, reinstall (do-da, do-da). I alway keep a drive turtle handy for just that reason.
