Ok... have you swapped memory? Its about the only thing left but ya never know. Also, try booting with only the cards you need installed in the machine.

Pretty much echoing what everyone else said, but don't forget that you can check the temperature and voltage settings in the bios.. it's also a good way to make sure it isn't a driver conflict.

If it's windows xp, make sure you turn off the auto-rebooting "feature" on blue screens of death, you might be losing some useful information on crashes.

It really does sound like a heat or power supply problem to me. Try leaving it running in the bios for awhile and see if it crashes. Then try just leaving it idling in windows and see if it crashes. If all goes well and it only crashes under load, its probably heat related.

You also might want to do a complete ram test via one of those old school dos tools, and maybe even an ide hd test to make sure it's not the harddrive as well.

Good luck.

Try going to Asus and downloading the newest BIOS for the board if you do not have it already. I had the same type of problems with the P4s8x boards when they first came out. I am using a beta BIOS and all is well now. The newest version is A7V600 BIOS 1005, they have been through 4 BIOS' with a 5th in the beta stage so something must be up. Also make sure you update all of the drivers they have for this board just to be safe. Here is the link to the downloads directly from ASUS.

I have been building a lot of computers using their new P4P800 board and they are amazing to say the least. No problems at all with the random restarts/lockups I had with the SiS chipsets etc etc etc.... Probably because of the Intel chipset :) I have to say after all of the problems with the other chipset's ASUS offers on their boards it definetly makes me think twice before ordering anything but Intel now, at least for the P4 chips.

Hope it helps.

If you were not careful with ESD, the memory is shot, making your system lockup and bug prone.:D

Make sure you 3x check ur bios settings, my A7N8X came with them all screwed up, also make sure the heat sink on the cpu is the correct way, there is a lip that sits on top of the cpu holder that, if not seated the right way, will not make contact with the cpu and cause it to overheat, hence the lockup.rebooting.

Also, get the latest bios update, i had the same exact issues as you with my MB.

Good luck.

That was the problem heat sink with the lip not on right. Everything works fine now.
Now only one small problem When she starts up after the post it will ask me how I want to start windows Start Windows XP normally or set up and I have to choose. How do I set it to just go to windows?

Thanks again for all the help

Could be a bad PS as well...

I rule!

Do I get a prize? ;)

That error may mean the OS is fubared.. If you did the install with it overheating, I would wipe it clean and do it again.

The OS was put in before I installed the new MB.
It's not a error message it says to select operating system and gives two choices Windows XP or enter windows setup.

Check out the boot.ini settings, you can just go to a run dialog and run msconfig then head over to the boot.ini tab...

If it's not a gimped up setting in there, I have absolutely no idea.
