Ok heres the deal. I have a "3500" Pats l/u converter. I have the car at ESP right now for tuning and a trans issue (TV cable was streached) and they cant get the car to go over 3800 rpms when in D. They said that the converter feels to tight, and I also agree. It took 4 seconds to go from 0-5psi:eek: , please dont laugh to hard. The car accelerates like a Geo Metro now, only with worse gas milage. When I tried a stall speed test the car would start to power brake at around 25-2900 rpms. So back to my original question. Is there a vendor that could possible help me out with taking this converter off my hands and trade plus cash to set me up with a good PTS converter? I say PTS because it seems everyone loves them here. Thanks alot I hope some one can help.

Your best bet is to put it up here for sale. I'm sure you would get more money for it that way.

WOW that was fast!!! I would hate to sell someone a converter that might perform like a POS for them. I just wouldnt feel right about doing that. I paid $500 for the thing and it has only 500 miles on it

I see you have a te45. That converter would probably work great for a 61 or smaller turbo. That's what I would sell it as. You could also look into having it restalled. Might be the cheaper route.

I was thinking about the re-stall, I'm pretty sure that you get 1 free re-stall from pats. I would of liked it to be right the first time though:mad: . Thanks alot Kevin, this car is KILLING me, and i'm only 23 with a few gray hairs thanks to this car.

No problem! I've been there. I got my car when I was 18...now just turned 30:eek: At least your hair is turning gray...mine is just falling out lol.

If you cant get up on boost with a 3500 10" convertor with a 62 turbo, something else is most likely wrong.

Otto, the engine is tits, in nuetral the thing revs up opon command. John has the AF ratio dialed in and this thing is a dog. What are you thinking? P.S not sure of AF ratio at this time.

They can't get it to go over 3800 powerbraking it now? If so what is boost @ 3800? My friend has a TE63 and a Pat's 3500 and around 2# it is 3500 and it works well. They should restall it if it's wrong. If they are getting 3800 now though, like Otto said, it has other problems.

It shifts at 3800 at WOT. And it starts to power brake at 25-2900 rpms. The shifting problem has to be the Govenor, but that stall speed is way low. This combo should be smoking the tires everywhere it goes, but the thing has no acceleration until about 4200 rpms when shifting it manually. And is not building boost fast at all.

esp doesnt have a converter to try? do you have the original one, if not try a junk yard they may have one real cheap just to try out.

I see now, thats why I asked. Get the tv/shift rpms fixed. Still could be the tune making it stall low. 2500 is that where it starts spinning the tires when powerbraking or do the rpms not climb any higher?

You have more than one problem here. You need to have a converter that will stall to at least 3200 at zero boost/vacuum to have the 45 come up quickly. I think you are referring to "PTC" converters. PTS is very reputable trans shop (Bruce Toele) but doesnt manufacture converters. Id rec the looser of the 10" PTC units or go to the 9.5" NL if you want to maximize performance. Your trans vb/governor combo needs to be verified before we can rec what to do about the low rpm shifting.

I can take trade in's. The value of it depends on what core it uses and if the internals are in good shape. Could be $150 or as much as $300 on trade in. No way of knowing until it's cut open and inspected.

I'm sure they do, but I do not have the money to have them take it out and install another one just to test it out. I can easily do it myself if I had a lift to do it on. I do have a 3300 stall but the startor is shot (spins both ways) so that is no good anymore

Yeah, it stays around that rpm and smokes the tires but does not really gain any rpms.

Thanks for the correction, I dont know why I was thinking PTS, although I am a dyslexic allot of the time  ( dont try to get me to do mental math either)

Thanks Dusty, this is exactly what I was looking for. Like I said the converter has about 500 miles on it (seriously), and its supposed to be a 3500 stall l/u . I will guarantee that there is nothing "technically" wrong with this converter, it just seems it doesnt want to do what I want it to. It really sucks because the trans felt fine before it was rebuilt (pump failed twice) and when I got everything back together it feels like $hit. Thanks again Dusty I will call you mon or tuesday. Its nice to see that people dont hang you out to dry in this community:D Truly one of the classiest group of people out there (except for the deadbeat sellers).

Did this converter act like it was supposed to before the pump failure? It's strange that a converter that's supposed to be 3500 is that far off. Sometimes a tranny will make things behave much different than it should but it's rare.

Its hard for me to pin point anything because I had the engine rebuilt, new turbo, watsegate, injectors, cam, front mount.......and the list goes on. And I had the trans rebuilt and a new converter. So when I put this car back together it had a whole other combo than it had before. So I dont know what the converter would have done if I never touched the engine. I never had this converter when the pump failed. Everything in my new combo has 500 miles on it right now. Im almost getting to the point where I'm going to part everything out, because its one thing after another. I wish I had done more research earlier in my build, so I wouldn't have these problems, but I though that I had good recomendations early on. Live and Learn. Also could there maybe be a problem with the Wastegate? Its a TiAL 44mm external.

If the wastegate is stuck open you can have these issues. Tial is a good product so I doubt that's the case. Sounds like the converter is just too tight.

You can check the wastegate to see if it's stuck open. Pull it off the car and make sure it opens and closes like it should. You can check it with air pressure. Depending on spring pressure,30-40# of air pressure will make the valve operate.

Has anyone checked the Turbo?

sounds like either a pre turbo exhaust leak or a damaged turbine if the thing dosen't pull until 4000 rpm

turbo is brand new, and i looked for pre-turbo leaks, and didnt find anything.
