SignUp Now!Curious why you're changing transmissions?
I was curious bout that too since the 200-4r has a better 1st gear. They make 200-4r's that can handle a lot of power, or go to a 700r4. why a 3 speed?
I would venture to say money. That was the main reaon for me. Price a 10 sec 350/400...and then price a 10 sec 200/700.
bUT ITS NOT LIKE YOUR NOT GETTING ANYTHING FOR THE EXTRA MOney, Lower 1 st gear and 4 speed with a lockup, which allows you to run lower rear gears. I have 4.56's in my Monte and I can run down the highway at 70mph at 2700 rpm. Would NEVER be able to do that with a TH350. Not to mention now with the lower 1st gear, my bite off the line is way better than a TH350 with even 4.11's
obviously. I was saying same car same engine set-up, a 200-4r with 4.56 gears is going to be way better off the line then a 350 with 4.11's provided optimum traction etc.And bite at the line has WAY more variables than just the tranny. What are your et's and 60 ft times?

200-4r 1st gear = 2.74
TH350 1st gear = 2.52
But cruising down the highway with a
3 speed th350 28" tall tire and 4.11's = 70mph @ 3452rpm
4 speed 200 4r 28" tall tire and 4.56'S = 70mph @ 2566rpm
thats a huge difference. Forget a TH350 with 4.56's you can never drive it on the street 70mph @ 3830rpm
There again...do ya wanna run low RPM's getting there? Spend the xtra $$$$s on a 200. If a budget kick ass tranny is the goal, you can't beat a 3 spd.
I guess the Turbo Buick world is different than Every other car.
oh the cars your talking about above this post are race cars ..![]()
I don't know anybody that runs those gears in a TR. So it's good info but not really relevant to a TR, unless somebody has some type of oddball set-up.
Isn't that what some people are looking to do?
so isn't it a lil silly for 8AV8 to say
I guess race cars are oddball set-ups.![]()

Just because no one here does steeper gears doesn't mean it doesn't help. If any one of you switched from a 3.42 or what ever to a 4.56 gear, your 60ft. time would improve as well as your e.t. as long as you could get it to stick.
a 4.56 gear is easier to get going, just like on a 10 speed bike, the big gear you could get going really fast and the smaller one would be hard to get going but then you could pedal 40mph.
Same principal.
