OK, I have a 1985 GN and just ordered an '87 ECM from Red Regal T. So, what are all the other parts I'll need to do the conversion? Thanks!

You will need a chip of your choice,
MAT sensor and harness
The small CALPAK chip in you 85 box can be used in the new 87

The new 87 box plugs right in but you need to insert an addition pin in the ECM body plug for the MAT sensor

The other hook up for the electric fan turn on is not needed for engine driven fan on the 85

THere are pin outs for the ECM PLUGS ON GNType web site

You can obtain spare ecm plug pins at JUNK yard

Regards,

:o

MAT signal wire is pin C11 and MAT signal ground is pin D12

Some say that you must change also to the 1987 Mass air flow sensor, but the 85 will work ok , actually provides a little richer fuel curve, You can inform your chip maker of this.

Regards

Most run horrible with the hotair MAF - definately swap it for a 86-87 unit.

BTW - we are talking black smoke out of the pipes @ idle rich.

Thanks for all the info. Do you know anyone selling the rest of the parts I'll need to do the conversion? I have a stock chip from my old 1987 GN that went on fire. Will that be good for the mods I have listed below?

Casper's electornics

Casper's has everything you need

Your stock 87 chip is a start

Do you have an Adjustable fuel regulator?
and hot wire fuel pump?

Funny you should say that. I'm putting in a AFR, fuel pressure guage, and a 160 degree thermo tomorrow. Fuel pump is stock. I ordered a Mease 3" downpipe with test pipe and a 3" exhaust. The only other mods I have are listed below.

all i did was get an ECM from a junkyard for $40 take out my 84 ECM take the calpak out of that put it in the new one along w/ a chip(caspers ultrachip) and plug in the new ECM and swapped to an 87 MAF...dont bother with the MAT or electronic fan...im going to worry aobut that later when I have time to go junkyard hopping...the SES light is on but no big deal...the important thing is the car runs 10x's better now...good luck

weirdly, my car runs the same with 2 different chips. a jay carter chip programmed for bluetops and an 84 MAF, and a ra chip programmed for bluetops and an 87 maf..

humph.

ls1 maf asap :)

with all the mods you have, i would assume your next mod needs to be that fuel pump
specially if its old, cuz its barely sufficient for a stock car

check out www.racetronix.com
get a walbro 340 and the hotwire kit , good price for the pair

check out
