I'm about ready to put the engine back in the car and I have a 12" L/U that is replacing my stocker to spool up my TA60. I really don't know squat about transmissions. Is there anything I must do prior to install? Do I fill it with fluid? It just slides on whichever way fits and I'm done??

Thanks!

Put a good bit of fluid in it before sliding it on the input shaft. I usually try to get at least 1/2 quart in the converter.

When you slide it on the input you will have to turn the converter by hand to get everything lined up right. There should be 3 distinct "clunks" while turning it by hand while pushing inward.

The 1st clunk will be when it slides onto the stator support tube, the 2nd will be when it slides onto the input shaft and the 3rd which is the most difficult will be when the 2 slots on the converter engage the transmission pump.

Thanks Dusty! I have one more question for you, if you don't mind. The board member that I bought the conveter from said he used Type F in it. My trans is full of the GM goop. Is there a problem if these mix, or should I drain/replace the fluid in the transmission? converter?

Mixing won't hurt anything. Some prefer type f, some prefer dexron.

It is ok to not know everything, however get someone who does .You dont want to damage anything.Be certain there is at least 1 inch between the face of the converter mounting pads and the face of the bellhousing mounting flange .If not the converter isnt in all the way.You dont wantto break something by not being aware of it.
