convertor to flexplate spacing?

putting together my stage 2,th400,9" conv,and jw flexplate. my question is how much of a gap is acceptable between the convertor and flexplate before you have to use a washer and what is the proper torque to tighten.Thanks Steve

The flexplate clearence is 1/8 to 3/16"

I prefer to keep it on the tight end of 1/8.

whats the preferred style of washer for this operation? hardware store $.05 or somthing of the hardened upper scale? 45ftlbs sound about right?

If you must shim the convertor, use parallel ground grade 8 washers. Use locktite and tighten the bolts with a 3/8 ratchet until the flexplate turns (overcomes motor compression).
