My 87 GN has been setting outside for 13 years in Maine. Have it running, put hydroboost brake system on. Next is cooling fan. When I got the car the fan would only come on when car was shut off, even when cold. Replaced delay relay. Fan now comes on as soon as car is started. Where are thermostats and relays I should be checking? Thanks for help. GNJAKE

The chip in the car turns the low speed fan on where programmed.

High speed fan is turned on around 220 degrees by the temp. sensor in the intake.

Two small relays next to the one large one you just replaced on the drivers side control the fan operation.

The delay relay isn't needed and probably not working right or the high speed temp. sensor is shorted to ground yet the high speed fan circuitry and relay isn't working.

The green thin wires on the small relays plug are the ground "triggers".

One is solid green one has a yellow striped green wire, thin 18 gauge wires.

Take a needle and ground the wire through the insulation with the plug in place on each relay and with the KEY ON see if the fan starts, it should with a ground on that wire and the plug still connected.

The search feature should have tons of information about proper fan operation and additional tests.
