I recently saw this video in a S.F.S.T. class that I attended. Very effective tool!! No hands on for the officer, no injury to either party and with no long lasting effects for the actor. Our dept should go with tasers.

My Step Brother works for the Sheriff's department in Florida, They got them a little while ago he loves it He claims it can shoot about 25 feet, I guess they would really be good when you are alone and back-up seems hours a way.

****! I thought Liberal New York was the last to get anything! They have been using tasers for approximately 15 years. The Supervisors are the only ones carrying it in the car. We have two types one with the darts and the other one for close contact. There have been some fatalities even with this non-lethal weapon.

When out of shape dummies over exert themselves a % will die. Look how many people collapse just from shoveling snow. When morons fight with the police and get their heart racing like never before combined with years of illicit drug / alcohol abuse nothing GOOD will come of it. The Taser REDUCES the chance of a bad outcome if someone chooses the physical route.

Is it much stronger than mace. I have seen some people take a massive hit with mace and it did nothing, yes police issued, do you run the same risks with the Taser.

In my opinion each weapon poses it's own risks. People on Meth and some mentals don't react to pepper spray/mace. My partner and I sprayed a mental woman brandishing a knife at us with pepper spray and she didn't blink an eye. I believe a Taser hit would have done the trick instantly. The Taser cannot be used around anyone who may be near flammables whereas pepper can. People with pre-existing breathing conditions may have an adverse affect to chemical agents. Each has it's advantages/disadvantages.

IMHO the Taser is the most affective with the least chance of negative outcome.

Stream makes a pepper spray for NYPD it is composed of 2% Major Capsaicinoids and 10% Oleoresin Capsicum (fancy words for a mixture with pepper). I also rather use the taser or the bead bag (sound funny but it works).

Tasers are frickin raw, they have lead to deaths, but I tend to agree you've gotta have some way to deal with violent and reckless offenders. I'd wager that a lot of the people who'd get killed would be blow addicts. Besides, wasn't like that guy didn't have it coming. I've heard that some people are resistant enough to shock to pull the electrodes out, based on a blast off of a microwave trasformer I took a long long while ago I'd be quite amazed if that were possible. What's the penetration of those electrodes, would a thick jacket like a welder's jacket stop them?

That was quite amusing , i tasered My roomate on his birthday ( His request) with the Air taser , the 18 model ,Looks like a Glock . He didnt go down but i only hitem with the first shot if i remember correctly . The barbs from the darts left some nice Black and blues for a few days . He was pretty boxed at the time , said it would be imposible to fight while being shocked . I told him this year i was gonna shot him with a bean bag round i got for my shotguns . He was not receptive to that idea . and decided going to Vegas with his dad would be more fun .

There have been a few deaths that occurred after a Taser has been used, but not one of them has been directly linked to the Taser's use. It is a very effective tool that leaves no lasting injuries on suspects.

How about self control? Nothing says liberal like wanting a choice by which method to get beat! Tazers are another excellent tool to use to subdue a, let's say, "I have a right to be here, law abiding citizen"
