We're rebuilding the motor in our '86 WH1 and while everything is tore apart, we'd like to strip and repaint everything. Is there a paint code for the intake manifold or is it simply a light grey color we'll need to visually match on our own?

Thanks!

The original manifolds were painted with a clear coating. After awhile the heat discolored them so it looks like they were painted gray or silver.

Thanks, it looks like a light grey paint to me. Hopefully aviation paint stripper should be able to remove it so I can paint it again.

Glass bead blasting and High-temp clear is the closest to OEM I think you can get. Clear powdercoating leaves a yellowish milky tint to it. FWIW:cool:

Clear powder will turn yellow if it's overheated, usually during cure. If it stays below 350 it's usually OK.

Ive used Vht universal aluminum in a spray can for the last couple of engines Ive built. It looks very close to what the original color once was. I use it on my intake, upper plenum, valve covers. Nice thing is if oil spills on it, just wipe it away and it looks like new again.

A friend of mine building a BB chevelle had his intake PC'ed a blasted steel. Eastwood blasted Aluminum would be close too still a satin clear would be as close as you can get and have some durability.

I had mine powdercoated with" Anodized silver" at a local shop. It doesnt require a clear powdercoat either. It was tiger brand I believe. good luck.
