I have kind of noticed that some corvette owners are rather bitter when they see my car driving down the road. Not as hostile as some mustang owners who yell profanities and make obscene gesture, which we need not mention. Remember, I said SOME, not all... because you cant lay a stereotype to a group of car owners, cept GN owners, because we kick ass... but still. Nonetheless, i was wondering if anyone had the same thought of a big unspoken rivalry between GN and 'Vette owners ever since the big showdown in 1987. I think there is, personally, just the way i talk to some guys with corvettes and they kind of give me a weird look when i say i have an 87 GN. Vette's are the only chevy car i may ever love (camaros are cool, but everyone and their grandmother has one, sorry), but trust me, im BOP to the bone.

Also... when/if i get a job at GM, ill try my best to start up a new GN project, like they did with the GTO.

GN vs CORVETTES

i have a co-worker with a 94 vette that wanted to race my SS (after he had a borla exhaust system & 373 gears added on). when i suggested him to race my GN , he backed off. 2years ago my neighbor had purchased a Z06 & asked me: who's the fastest on the block now ? i replied: lets go to the track & ill show you. we never did get to race.(Z06 sold now). majority vette owners i met were cool, but 1 thing they all have in common is they know they have their hands full with our GN's.

What rivalry:
Oh, you mean between vettes & gn/gnx/t-type-turbo-t's?
Sibling rivalry at best.
My toys play very well with each other.

LMFAO
Thats pretty good:D

And yes I seem to see alot of it with not only 'vettes but anything that costs $50,000+. For them, it's kinda like racing a Honda, if you win, big deal, you beat an inferior car, but if you lose, you just lost to an inferoir car!!!!!!!! They see the GN's/T-Types/TTA's as inferior cars (since they are only V-6's in a regal/firebird and cost squat compared what they just paid for "the best") and would have nothing to gain and everything to lose if they actually took it to the track.

true, true... but ill never forgot how the one vette ive driven handled... it was orgasmic as worst. Wells: you got one of the oddest collections of cars ive seen, but all very, very damn nice.

Older Camaro owners around here have been upgrading to used Vettes and they seem to have upgraded their egos to match. These guys aren't really knowledgable on cars and generally go into denial about any chance of their Vette being slower than a GN. Since none of them do anything more than talk they remain secure in their shell of ignorance and that's just what I do, ignore them. They are not worthy.

True. Most of the older Vette people look down and talk crap but won't actually race when challenged. They went and got one of their Viper owning friends one time and after that race they wouldn't even look at me anymore. I see a true hatred toward our cars sometime.

No, no, no. The collection is normal. It's me that is the oddball.
I have an Honest to God obsession with the '86-'87 hardtop turbo regals and have owned 5. 4 of those were consecutive with the vette slipping in between the 4th and 5th Buicks.
Virtually everything other than the vette and the first Turbo-t were bought as drivers to replace current drivers and ended up being garage queens as I don't have the heart to use a nice low mileage t as a daily driver, but that is the rationalization I tell myself every time I buy another. It has to be used as a driver or I can't afford it.
Pics of the 9K mileage turbo-t is on TurboBuick>Turbo Lounge> Pics of Cruise for a cure < posted about a month ago
Thanks for the compliment.

One rule I always had: if your girlfriend's not in the car....I wont waste the gas on you. You ever meet one of those types of people who are like, racist and shoot thier mouth off all day about how they hate those damn (insert ethnicity)! But when they meet one of the aforementioned people and 'this particular one' is cool so they end up thinkin that this particular guy is the coolest member of the (insert color) demographic? I'm like that with Corvette owners; I feel about them probably the same as any other GN owner, but when one actually comes out and gives the GN it's proper credit....well that's one cool 'Vette owner, man.;)

agreed!

Robes87GN, my thoughts EXACTLY. If I ever do get job with GM, i will try my best to get the GN revived.;)

I have two corvette rivals--one is my wife--the other is my best friend.
LOOK at sig--my wife is not much of rival(although the day i ran 11.80 in the buick---she ran 11.88 3 times in row after that--at higher MPH than me:eek:   )Sexy--huh????

My best friend has a 96 lt-4 w/ head/cam,4.11 gears and every single bolt-on known(including electric water pump,headers,no exhaust,blah,blah).On a t-n-t day--we went 5-0 against him---with my wife running 3 of the runs:cool: :D --told you it was sexy.

Corvettes are cool by the way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best way I've figured out how to get along with Corvette & Mustang owners is to own a Corvette and a Mustang! :D

pop quiz:
I own an '84 hotair T-Type, an '84 Crossfire Vette, and an '89 Mustang GT convertible. All 3 are bone stock (well, the buick still needs the engine fixed, but, ya know...)

Which is the fastest 0-75 car??

;)

Most vette owners think they are elite.

I was at Vettes vs viper day this weekend.
I have never seen so many AZZholes in 1 location.

Some of the vette guys racing made me :D laugh.
leaving the line like john force doing a tire warm up.

actually (correct me if i'm wrong, Josh aka "missingmybuick") but i think most vette owners in cali are cool with GN's. One of our (my bro. josh and I) friends has an 87(??) vette with some goodies and has always loved GN's. another friend had an 87 vette and he was coll with GN's as well. so our luck has been pretty good so far!!!

Yes Littlesteve, it was a hoot watching those Vipers (all 6 maybe) click off those blistering 13 second runs with 10 cylinders. Some of those Vettes were fast (10s). Many were mid 12 second cars. I have meet a few guys that owned Vettes that were normal but unfortunately most I run into at cruises or on the street are stuck up. Pretty much all Viper owners I met are just rich and have no clue about any cars. Even Steve Ames of the famed Ames Performance (Pontiac parts supplier) said he didn't like his Viper much and he's got 100 cars to play with.

I have a 2002 Z06 as a daily driver. It is probably the fastest car I have ever driven OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR. The GNX, GN, or GSX couldn't compare to its bone stock power.

That being said, I love telling people when they comment about the Z06, "it's the slow car in the BLACK FLEET. They can't believe the #3,800 1986 GN (10.95 @124) or the #4,080 1971 GS Convertible (12.55 @ 108) will wax its butt. Thats why I really grin when driving the Buicks around town.:D :D

Then if they get really smarta$$ about the Buicks, I mention a little red Opel. ;)

GOT TO LOVE THOSE BUICKS.

SUPPORT THE BPG - ITS FUN.
