Hey fellas this problem is a real pain I have an 85 everything stock except 50lb injectors an a TT chip the car runs ok but won't start after it warms up if I let it cool for 30min it's fine fires right up. I replaced coil and ignition module and I still have this going on. What else will do this help??? Somebody

Is the new ignition module a known good, tested, and working part.... or just a new one from the parts store?

It cranks but won't start, still it could be the starter?
Didnt say it would crank
Go to the store and get a can of compressed air
When it get hot
Spray the crank sensor with the can upside down to cool the sensor
Had the same problem with a customer car a long time ago.
Was a bad sensor for me

thanks I'll try that ASAP

Have a can of starting fluid handy. When it does not want to start, give it a little shot in the air cleaner. If it responds it's a fuel issue. If no response you have a spark/ignition problem. This will get you in the right direction.

Thanks, I did that and it backfired so I think it getting too much fuel where it needs to evaporate before it fires up again

That is a typical symptom of a bad/weak in-tank fuel pump, did you check fuel pressure when it does not start?

A backfire sounds like you have spark, but not enough fuel with just spraying starting fluid.

Also, the 1984-5 GN's had a unique module/coil pack, and the 1986-7 unit will not work unless you also have the wiring adapter to change it over. This is confusing as you state the car is all stock?

It could very well be the fuel pump, it is the original from the 80s. How do I test it what should the pressure be while cranking

Another thing when I started in on the car years ago I noticed it had another fuel pump outside the tank I removed it when I pulled the tank for cleaning there was no motor in the car so I didn't put it back in. Recently I've been doing my homework and seen guys using 2 pumps, I thought this was only for racers????

Be sure you check the voltage at the connector by the fuel tank.

Few weeks ago I checked a 1984 turbo Regal as it did not have good power or driveability, and it turned out there was less than 5 volts supplying the pump at the connector, I was amazed it even ran?

Your info is very helpful which wire do I test and should the voltage be 12v or what? Sorry if I seem dumb........... I am..... Lol

The red wire on the harness should be 12 volts, but very seldom are on these cars.

The computer only supplies power to the pump for about 2 seconds, so you have to watch real quick if disconnected, or tap the wire to check voltage when the car is running which is what you are looking for in this case.
