My drivers side header cracked where the third pipe attaches to the collector pipe. I've seen others cracked in this way. Can I just fix it with my MIG (I am not the best welder). Or is there something special that must be done to fix it. Some shop that has a way to fix this permanently? One crack is along the weld and one is right on the pipe.

Thanks,
Joe

The header is stainless. If you patch it with a mig, the crack will reopen as soon as you start the car again.

It needs to be torqued to a head or a jig when it's repaired, too.

The header is 409 grade stainless, a relatively poor quality ferritic stainless.

Best results will be TIG welding, using an austenetic (sp?) filler rod, 309 grade.

I had mine TIG welded by a friend. The weld is fine but I believe it did warp the header slightly. I have to use an exhaust gasket now.
