crackling head unit

i got the stock head unit in my car, and i really dont want to change it right now.. but recently when i put the tape in the deck for my CD player it starts crackling horribly... it never did this before... whats the best way to get it to clean it up?

There was an Alpine CD player on Ebay a while back for cheap... I can get you an MP3/CD with remote for $100 new if you want through Brandsmart. In the meantime, clean the heads on the tape deck and check the wire for the cassette adaptor.
