OK I have stock headers and Postons crossover pipe. Were the crossover and headers connect on the passenger side they are leaking. So I tried to tighten it down some more and it is still leaking.
(My wastegate rod is shortened all the way because I cant get no boost........it is at around 15psi with leak)
Once I got it tightened down all the way I could it was still leaking...........loud a$$ ticking sound.......sux!! My boost went up to 16 psi. A little better so then I tried to tighten it agian and then i took it off and try to seat it better maybe and that didnt work......still leaking:mad:

Is there some kind of secret technic that you guys do to get these darn things in without any leaking:confused:

IS THERE SUPPOSE TO BE A GASKET IN THERE AT ALL...........i dont have one on either side if so..........all I see is the bottom of the headers with the rounded edges and the flang from the crossover to connect to that.

TIA..............Nick

(dont worry guys when the leak is gone i will turn down the boost, before i go out and give her nuts....;) )

you are dealing with an 18 year old exhaust piece that was marginal 15 years ago......get a new one...

New headers???

I already have the Poston's Crossover Pipe.

When I purchased the car it had a slight leak on the passenger side and was pumping out 19psi!! And now it has dropped down to 15psi???? The leak has gotten louder? New headers are needed or new Crossover.............Crossover was on car when i purchased it, probably a few years old, but its in good condition.
I dont think I need any new pieces, but I may be wrong:confused:

Other suggestions before I drop 500+ dollars on headers??????

TIA.............NICK

There are no GASKETS in between the stock header and my postons crossover pipe???? I know my 93 Blazer has gaskets they are called "donut gaskets"................not so on the TR????

Take the pipe off again. Look at the donut on the header. If it is egg shaped go to a muffler shop and have them use a steel cone and a hammer on it to make it round again. Then reinstall the crossover and evenly pull up both sides. If not evenly pulled up it will leak.

Alright I will give it a shot agian tonight after work..........I must have messed something up cause this morning it was leaking on the drivers side and the passengers side........ I will get the B!t(% one way or another:D Thanks for the replies guy that is what I though need to take my time and get it on there properly:)

Nick

buickboy had it right. The problem is not your x-over, it's your headers. The cone on the header becomes oblong over time. You need to take the headers off of the car and have the cones reworked into shape again. At this point the x-overs probably isn't round either. Make sure they fix that too.

Good luck

I found the best way to install the crossover pipe so it doesnt leak is to slowly snug up each side evenly while moving the pipe slightly to make sure it seats properly. If you only do one side at a time it will leak for sure. HTH

I have the same problem after about 4 years of those headers and crossovers.

I think mine was due to bad motor mount problems for a few months, maybe not...

I used some high temp. RTV on the donut and then retorqued it, didn't solve the problem much.

Prolly needs re-rounding as previously mentioned. :)

I don't lose any boost yet I don't think, but do have some exhaust smell with the windows partially down that bothers me.

Let me know what fixes this. :)

Woody say your sorry. ;)

Well Just wanted to say thanks for the replies I did not get to work on her tonight and my stinking garage has no lights and a shop light under my car sux!!:D

I will let you all know how it goes.........i am thinking the headers or crossover are out of shape after reading your comments. So I will try it all agian....;)

Nick

Just read 1badTTA's comments and I don't do that method of tightening but it sounds like it's worth a shot. :)

Not so easy for me to roll around under Buicks much anymore. ;)

Hopefully I can try that in the am.
