This connector coming out of the wire harness on the driver side fender well is for the factory alarm right? Wasn't sure, just curious.

btw, my car is running great since the header upgrade and coil pack conversion. Definetly a noticeable quicker spool up on the turbo.

Not sure what it is, but mine is not plugged in either.

Ditto on the "not theft". I cant think of what its for either. It looks like a feed for an optional component. There would be a jumper wire that connects it to something.

According to my option code sticker on the decklid, this car came with the "security" option. I'm not familiar enough with the option to know if it relates. The main reason it crossed my mind is I remember how a lot of the gm cars from that era had the little keyhole in the front fender on that side to arm and disarm system. I did look at my 87 gn to see if I could "missouri blueprint" it to see if I could come up with any ideas, but the 87 has totally differant wireing harness obviously, and all the fan relays and wiring are right there.
The other possibility I can think of is maybe for the block heater option? I don't think I've ever seen that option on a auto, so, wouldn't know it if I saw it. I just figure the more I know my gn, the better. ;)

hey turbofish.... You've got a year gap in your lineup. You need is a 1983 buick of some sorts so you haven't skippped a year. :D

I checked my 85 and I have the same wire which in not connected. My car has manual windows and door locks and minimal upgrades. Thank God the guy who ordered my car in 85 didn't put all that electrical crap in there because after 21 years it leads to problems.
I would ignore the wire. Also, I am too lazy to research it in the shop manual. The 85 shop manual is a horrible thing to use to research problems. Good luck. Brad

Yeah, 83 is a cursed year for me. I've had quite a few of them but nothing worth driving. They have all been parted out. Someday though. I'm itching to screw around with a carb-turbo for some reason. The factory theft is integrated into the dash side wire harness.

Here is something that might be related though. I've owned a lot of the hot air Rivs so I pretty much can tell the difference between an 84 and an 85 just by sitting in the car it seems. One of the differences between those two years is that the 85's use an idle speed PS pressure control switch. Its just a pressure switch that sits on the PS high pressure side hose. When you crank on the steering wheel when the car is stopped or rolling at a very low speed it kicks the idle up so the engine doesn't stall. The 84 doesn't use one and neither does any of the Regals. But the wires are part of the engine harness and not a jumper wire pluged into a connector. Maybe the Buick engineers had something planned and didn't implement it.

Another scenario. I dont know if you guys have heard this but Buick orginally planned on putting water injection on these motors. In fact there is the "power injection" light on the dash on every turbo car. I wonder if this is power supply for the pump or something? I've got a 85 FSM and when I get some time I'm going to look and see whats there. All we need is for an 85 owner to chime in and say they either have or dont have that wire to confirm it is a hot air only thing. Edit-Scratch that I see Brad has an 85 and answered my question.

What about auto-levelling? I've never seen it offered on any GN, but then again, I'm new to the GNs.

the double wire on the clip is for the digital dash option...I am not totally sure what it does, but if you have the digital dash, it is hooked up...if not, then it got left there from the factory....good luck!!

hmm..... I'll go for that. I've never seen a 84/85 with a digi dash, but if I ever do, I'll definetly take a look. thanks

here is the digital dash in my brothers car. It also has the digital climate control. Cool features for 1984!!!!

I've seen many a digital hot air. And most if not all of them have the climate control too. I had a 84 T-Type with staight bench, digital and C68.

Dude! Tell your bro to clean his trip reset knob. You can twist CCW and the knob will thread off. Use some WD40 and the rust comes off and there should be some of the original anodizing hiding on there. The stem is probally rusty too. You have to pull the lens off to clean that one. A clean car is a happy car.

Alcohol injection. Jumper the wire and the power inj light should light up if it has a bulb in it. At least that's what mine did.
