When boring and honing cylinders on a Buick production V-6, is it necessary is to use a cylinder torque plate?

Round rings seal better in round bores!!! :D

Yes, Torque plates are Highly Recommended! You only need it to hone the block, not necessary for boring. Don't forget to use the same head gasket as you intend to run.

The truly anal machinists and engine builders also use aluminum torque plates when you intend to run aluminum heads...Some have also played around with "Hot Honing" or running 240 degree oil through the block while honing. ......makes sense if you have an unlimited budget, but where do you draw the line?

Agreed, very good idea to have it done, and the good shops have the plates or work with other shops to make sure they have all bases covered. Where you located? If you haven't found a place that has a plate, I am sure someone on here could help out and locate a reputable place.
