I have a complete drive train (eng, tranny, driveshaft, rear end) out of an '86 GN. The tag on the passenger side by the tailshaft housing says "BRF". The converter isn't orange and doesn't state D5 at all, all over like my '87 Turbo T's converter. The color is more like a machined metal color (dark grayish silver). Is a stock '86 GN supposed to be orange in color and stamped D5? Also, is there any other way to determine this is a '86 GN transmission? I want to put this in my '86 Monte Carlo SS (slipping tranny), but I want to get a CK or TCI rebuild trasmision kit, Servo kit, and recalibration kit. What's your opinion?

Gm did not paint their converters. Plain metal finish with a sticker like: CB8F or very rarely CA8F. And some got the D5 stamp and some only got the 5 stamp.

Sounds like the correct trans with aftermarket converter. What color is the BRF tag? Should be blue.

Valvebody should have Purple dye on the side & BR & a number stamped in White or Yellow ink. Example = BR3
