damn power master brake problems.when I press the pedal brake fluid foams out the back of the master cylinder. then it makes an eerie whine noise. The brake light flashes...basically its goin crazy any ideas wht might be happening?

Sounds as if pump is on its way out. A guy by the name of hank terry used to sell pump motors.Chances are the rest of that PM unit may be close behind. With the price of switch, accum, motor I would replace whole unit or convert your system over.

He use to be a member here.Try looking under members list or try a search.Sorry no number.

I believe i have to change my powermaster too. The dame thing just keep running.someytime i will have brake and sometime i don`t. Oh well. I am looking to install the hydro-boost system in the near future (1-2 month). I will take care of the PM issue after i finish install the C5 disk braking system,

I have try changing accumlator, pressure switch, motor but i never swap master cylinder. I have try install two other use PM (don`t know the condition with remove), and the dame thing just keep running.

Yea, i`m going hydro-boost.

good luck

go vacuum

i converted my PM junk over to vacuum brakes and havent looked back. i think i paid $35 dollars at the junk yard. got the booster, master and pedal. put a free rebuild kit in the master and called it a day. stevex,.. are you putting a c5 brake system on a turbo buick?? if so, d@mn. id like to see pics of that when you get it done. later, jeremy

it`s from a 91 ZR1 . the rotor are 13 inch with the dual piston aluminum caliper. Iwas able to mount the 13 inch rotor to the g-body spindle.

I am have issue with yahoo photo. hope pic are ok.

i have order a few braket from couple company, if all fail. i will have to cut a custom braket. I just had to do this project. On top of a sucky buick front brake, ui got the 91 ZR1 four F/R L/R for $90.00 and i had to remove it my self.

I am one happy camper. I do plan on do the C4 rotor with the C5 caliper. Its time to enjoy the car and stop digging into my pocket.

Hydroboost Vs Vacuum Vs Powermaster

Those pumps have phenolic vanes, and brake fluid has no lubrication to speak of. When they wear, they can foam the fluid, or the motor works itself to death trying to reach the preset switch pressure setting needed to turn off the motor. The other problem is the seal between the pump side and the 12v side leaks fluid into the motor and shorts it out. It is really hard to find a cure for the pump situation. We use new hydroboost assys, which of course, run off of the p/s pump. If the pump is running, (usually when you are driving) you will have power brakes, and enough power brake pressure (1200-2000 psi) to stop the car at high speed, with the volume and pressure needed for 4 disc brake conversions. Think of this: when you apply the brake to spool up the turbo, the p/s pump is spinning faster, supplying more pressure into the hydroboost. It just locks down harder. Pulling 10lbs or more boost is easy, holding the car solid. There was one guy that was running the stock crank pulley, (designed for cruising in overdrive) that actually was leaving the line at 6000rpm. The problem with that is the p/s pump is turning 10,000rpm. Too much! For drag race, slow the accessory speed down. The hydroboost (contrary to some) cannot fail. They only leak after many miles of dirty fluid or overheated fluid. They do need clean fluid and with that they can last 200,000 miles. The master cyl can be replaced separately, and easily, which gives tuneability for different caliper combinations. A plus is that the p/m and the h/b use the same brake pedal, saving a bunch of labor. Spin off the 4 nuts, reinstall, the master lines are the same, hook up new hoses to the p/s pump, and it works. Hydroboost Systems

New hydroboost, master, and mounting plate lists out for $875.00. The people on this site, can ask for the discount, and it nets to you at $525.00. There is a choice of rubber type or stainless hoses for the system. Rubber type is $135.00, stainless nets out at $235.00. Thanks for asking.

That sounds reasonable when comparing to PM prices in recent yrs.Do you have any installed pics on a 87 era g/n?Does it retain stock brake pedal? And work with 87s serpentine belt setup?
