Dash repair help needed

My first thought is a piece of metal that spans the hole from behind to strengthen it and holds the cable in place.

Can't think of the name of them but at Lowe's or the Homo-Depot in the hardware section that has all the drawers with tons of stuff there's these round metal plugs (all different sizes) with the serrated prongs that hold it in. Maybe a bit of fabricating for it would work.
