are there any other scan tools besides direct scan or turbolink that will datalog? Turbolink looks to have the 'leg up' in this area.

You can also do WinALDL, its the budget solution. Cable is $65 ish, free software.

leg up on ds , i dont think so

tlink reads though the aldl port and updates at about 1 frame of date for every 1.5 seconds , lots can happen in 1.5 seconds , like you can completely miss a shift point event and dont know rpm or what occurs when it shifts , you could miss the whole launch , or the last second and a half of a run
on a run theres only about 12-14 seconds of data that matters , 1.5 seconds between data frames is a joke .

directscan reads 18 frames per second directly from the ecm , thats a lot of info and it doesn't miss a thing . yes its got its downsides as far as ease of initial installation and can take a few tries to get the connections clean enough to work properly but once its in and working it works great . i keep the DS box under the floor mat and cable under my passenger seat and when its time to get some info i can put the laptop on the seat and set it to record off tps , make a run and hit the spacebar , save and then reveiw the data

I noticed that DS had tech support avail via Conley's Performance...so I can buy from them? The scan tool I'm using now is around a frame per second and yes...a lot can happen there.
SO can you run DS on a pentium 3 (600 mHz) win ME computer?

im running on an older p75 dell with win 95

DS is dos based

best is win 95 or win 98 as the system recognizes the com port so theres no fuss connecting up

with xp you need a boot disk with win 98 to run DS , without the boot disc youll be unable to correctly id the com port and youll get no data
try this link.

if you need the DS software or want to preveiw on your pc its on kents site , along with the instruction manual so you can see operate the program and seee whats needed to modify the ecm (really not a mod just how to gain access to the connection port on the ecm board edge and clean it )

heres some files you can download and veiw in buffer redisplay to get a good idea of whats ahead ,
http://bmcomputersource.com/Qstore/directscan.html

youll need the ds box and cables to read realtime data , conley or ramchargers has DS and comes with the hardware , software and instruction manual .

so for the price/quality it looks like direct scan is a no-brainer compared to tl or scanmaster.

i just need basic stuff for my tta... but for an extra $50 i guess ds is the way to go. i use atap, efi, edit, etc on my ls1 car so i'm guessing ds is what i want for the tta ;)

be aware that you would want to run DS on an older laptop running win98 or win95 , ive heard lot of trouble newer laptops runnong Xp have troubles getting access to the data port while trying to run in dos.

btw DS isnt an extra $50 , its the cheaper of the two , tlink is 299, DS is 249
