I like it. The only problem I have with it, is the loudness. Theres good loud, and bad loud. Theres no dynamics, everything is cranked to 11 all the time. I record music on the side, and for someone whos taken a crapload of music theory, audio arts production and audio engineering courses, it just sounds distorted to me.
Its like listening to it on an old stereo thats cranked to where the speakers are distorting, but no matter how much you turn it down, it still sounds distorted. If you search youtube, look for the argument of how the rockband version sounds, compared to the CD version.
The music is good, really good. But, the recording itself makes it hard to listen to for me. I keep wanting to turn it down so I'm not overpowering my speakers, but thats just the way it was recorded. Some songs are a little less "on the edge of distortion" than others, but just from a audio arts junkie point of view, it could have been recorded so much better for the CD release. The rockband version sounds so much better. It would be nice to see a re-released version, but I somehow doubt it will happen. Too bad, since it could sound so much better with a re-mix.

I'm not the biggest Metallical fan, but "End of the Line" has got to be one of the best songs they have done in quite some time. I can't seem to play it loud enough.

I though mine was distorted but its just my ears from 20+ years of LOUD heavy metal concerts and some good ole Kenwood 4-way 6x9's back in the day.

Love this album...it goes back to the Lightning/Justice sound.

I know this Benoit maniac likes the new Metallica CD 'cause he blasted it until 4AM while I was trying to SLEEP

Benoit you can trust me when I say Freddy (black magic racing) knows his metal.

Cheeseburger is down with the sickness too. What's up with all the metalheads in Canada!

To me its just another coporate record. Doesnt have much going for it and now that Liquid Metal is passing it off as real metal I am just that more disappointed in it. :(

I'm not a die hard fan or anything but...

To me its just another coporate record. :(
X2. I remeber "In Justice For All" taking a little getting used to but only becuase it was so raw. I'm sorry but this album doesn't make any sense to me.

Mike... your just mad you can't run with the big dogs... by the way it was only beer thirty in the morning...

Cheese if I had the guts I'd let you play my picture disc collection on your pretty little record player ;) I've got lots of Maiden, Ozzy, Slayer, Priest discs stashed away.

Hey Benoit are you going with me to the House of Blues to see BLS? They'll be inn Charlotte a few days earlier, so you need to go to one of those shows. Email me.

check out five finger death punchfor something that rocks like no other.

dont get me wrong though i love some good metalica , but the music and the lyrics have to mesh.

I like it as well , seems the more I listen to it the more I like it. being a drummer seems to also draw in certain music as well and I have always liked Lars

I still say this is album is NO WHERE NEAR the metal mastery these guys used to own the patent on. when i was 13, i heard "MASTER OF PUPPETS" for the first time. It literally changed my life. at the time, i was listening to stuff like Aerosmith and AC/DC. THis turned me into a thrashoholic. Metallica is supposed to be a thrash metal band. This album is bad comedy. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be punk, rock, nu metal, or what. All i know is that the scooped, super-heavy guitar sound is not there, nor are the double-bass driven drum tracks, nor is James Hetfield's voice. He now just sounds like an old man who ran outta money, and had to make another album. I swear, if i hear one more OOOAHH YAYUH!! or yeyeaah! i'm gonna throw up. I mean, who sings like that? is it really necessary to end every word with YAH??
EnoughAH RamblingAH!! i'm going work on some BUICKSAH! YAYAH!! :D

And i'm gonna crank up a slayer album while i'm doing it.

And Thanx for the Kudos Mike!!

Thrashaholic you say? I guess we should start a support group. :D

I agree completely with you on this album. I remember when I was younger sitting in the back of my dads van with a walkman on blasting Kill'em All! and Master of Puppets. Back then Metallica was the heaviest music I listened to but then came along Pantera, Slayer, SOD, etc... and I left Metallica behind in 1992 when I fell asleep at the Metallica/Guns N Roses tour in the HHH Metrodome in Minneapolis. I knew at that point that I was beyond this "normal metal" that was moving into the mainstream. That doesnt mean its horrible, I just dont choose to listen to it as it will do nothing more than put me to sleep. This new album from Metallica sounds like they purposely mastered it like crap to sound a little raw. No real metal singer needs to take singing lessons to help their voice. Thats what metal is, grindingly brutal lyrics, not soft tones and a bunch of YEEEAHHHAAAHHHAAAHHHH OH YEAAHHHHHHH AY HAAAAY YEAHHHHHHHH EH? (sorry, Canadian crack :o ) Its to corporate for me, just feels like when Liquid Metal plays them (what a joke of a station) I feel like I just stepped into a cube farm and they are playing to keep their jobs to the execs.

You want something new to listen to? Try Parkway Drive, Killing With A Smile. Its not new but wow is it brutal, I love every single track on that album. If James would fire Lars and get a good drummer and then just go back to his gritty sound of days gone by (thats odd, his voice gets "better" with time) and just go back to the roots they claimed to go to they would not be as heavy but still might be in my rotation with Parkway Drive. I have ZERO bad to say about Parkway Drive, simply perfect example of what extreme metal has evolved into.

Well, i still like this lp alot, much better then the crap they put out in the last 10 years.
Sounds great on Vinyl!
I hear Slayer is on there last album and packing it in.......

I cannot believe this thread is still going... I'm heading to Thailand this week, can you say cheap black concert shirts...
