Difference between 2dot and 3 dot

Attn engine gurus,
what is the actual difference between 2 dot and 3 dot rods.i know that 2 dot rods are more specific to turbo engines just curios as to the "actual" difference.

I have the 3 dot (non-turbo) rods in my motor. From what I can see compared to some 2 dot rods in the shop, it appears that they end caps on the 3 dot rods are not as heavy/strong. There is less material on them.

I've been running these non-turbo rods with stock type rod bolts in my car for 4+ years.
