just to be safe before buying without pulling apart rearend, i do have 10 bolt round cover 11 in, they do make 8.2 with same cover ,being i have not owed car since 86 is there a way of telling an 8.5 from 8.2? numbers, etc something on there? want to be safe on this.

GM hasn't put an 8.2 in anything since 1972. The covers are simuliar but the odds of someone stuffing it in your car are nil. If you think it might have the 7.5 instead those covers are more square than round. If you have any doubts grab the stamping off the right axle tube and post it back here and I can decode it for you.
