Digital dash problem

I have a 84 with digital dash.....the speedometer was working fine up until now...then it turned off, but the gas and trip worked fine....the scantool was reading m.p.h. but the dash wasn't displaying..Then it came back once...but now I think it's gone out for good....It seems the speed buffer is working but not displaying....
Anybody got ideas???
before I rip it apart!

I had a similar problem with my dash. I called John Spina at Caspers electronics. Apparently there is a common problem which is known as a "cold sauder joint". I asked John what I need to resauder and he told me exactly what part usually needs resaudered. A cold sauder joint (just in case you did not know) is where one of the electronic components that is saudered to the circuit board comes loose and does not make good contact with the circuit board. John told me which electronic element usually is troubled by this and where to find it. I "remelted" the sauder with a saudering iron to reestablish good contact and solved the problem. Hopefully that is all you have to do. John's number is(847) 247 0484. He's in the Chicago area.
