There was more then just DD that died............is he the only one that counts?
Lets not forget about the guys who went to see a concert and will never go home!

Absolutely.Sad day for more than one family in this world because of some deranged punk who was pissed that Pantera broke up.Some people these days are way too serious about insignificant things.I loved Pantera, but I would never kill anyone because of their breakup.

I would give almost anything if it meant bringing back all those killed in this disgusting tragedy.Except the killer of course. He can burn in hell.

I just read the article off msn.com.
f*cking sucks! I dont know much about the man, just that he shreds.

RIP

It's kinda sad society values one life more than another (which is wrong), but I know we all feel as badly for the other victims and their families. Quite possibly they were also doing what they loved - seeing a band/person that may have meant a lot to them. No one, ever needs to go anywhere and have their life taken from them like that. Work, school, shopping, whatever. I was a kid once and now I can't imagine the police coming to my house and telling me my kid got shot and killed at a concert.
So no, he's obviously not the only one that counts, but he was the one that touched our lives.

I think this day may change concerts for a long time... and maybe even the way bands play.

What a loss to Metal!
This guy was really great.
I can't imagine what his brother must have be feeling as he
watched this.

Thank God for that Cop that went Dirty Harry on that punks ass!

pay attention. I was talking about the shooter..
I read some about the shooter and he was an offensive lineman for a semi-pro football team around the area. They said he listened to Pantera to psyche himself up before games. And to blame the shooting on drugs is obsured in my opinion. He was probably an overly, way over, obsesive fan and , from what I heard, was pissed at DD for breaking Pantera up. That guy had a sickness and it wasn't drug related. But F*ck him anyway!! ?Thoughts and Prayers to all who were there.

RIP Dime............................A legend

And even more weird than this happening on the anniversary of John Lennons murder, I just saw the shooters license on the news and he was born on 9/11.....

This is unbelievable. To sit here and talk about Darrell in the past tense seems so wrong, so unfair, so unjust, I don't even know what to say. My heart goes out to Vinnie, to their families, to the other band members, and to the families and friends of the other people that were killed or injured, in this ****ing senseless act of selfishness and stupidity.
In 1985 I was fortunate enough to meet both Darrell and his brother in Dallas on tour. The first thing me and my friend did as soon as that tour was over, was to head straight back to Dallas and hang out with Darrell and Vinnie for a long time, cuz they were the coolest muther ****ers that we had met after criss-crossing the states for three months. That was the beginning of a friendship that was anchored in love, respect, fun, outrageousness, music, booze, sweat, late nights, early mornings, hangovers, headaches, pounding eardrums, sore bodies... the list goes on.

There's a tendency in these ****ed up moments to use the word "I" a lot and focus on one's own feelings of pity and shock... so instead let it just be known that thru these eyes Darrell was incredibly warm, open, fun, nutty, forthcoming, talented, embracing, unpretentious, accommodating and he always had a very attractive innocence about him that obviously made him never threatening and always welcoming.

Darrell and his brother were the cornerstone of musical adventures that were always groundbreaking, pushing boundaries, challenging to themselves and to their fans, respected by their peers and always true musicians' musicians, and today the rock world is worse off because of this untimely and senseless waste.

Much love and respect and thanks for letting me be a small part of your life and I know you are already having fun and throwing it down with Bon Scott, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Jimi, Cliff B., and the rest of the musicians and troublemakers that you are hanging with so prematurely.

Lars

RIP DARRELL

Isnt it interesting how a person and a band can be so huge and influential for a portion of society and yet still be so completely unknown to "regular" people?

If you woulda told me his name before this I woulda been able to say who he was in a second and probably would have talked about how huge pantera was for me

and you can see in these newscasts in how they are presented that the people reporting this never even heard of pantera until today.

just kind of interesting

I dont think I was ever as blown away as I was when I first heard Far Beyond Driven back in ... 94? i bought it right away and had allready had Vulgar display but FDB was just mind bending

OMFG!

Just heard about this.

If you watch both vids it says the shooter was prematurely discharged from the marines for "undisclosed reasons"!

I say the stupid sombitch was insane!

He had to be.

Pantera rocked @$$ and always will!

:(

I can remember 12 years ago when I first started guitar Vulgar Display Of Power was new and I tried SO HARD to play any of his stuff. Remember back then you couldn't buy a guitar magazine that he wasn't on the cover of....and deservedly so. I can't believe that this has had such a strong effect on me. I sat up late last night watching '3 Vulgar Videos From Hell' slugging back 'Black Tooth Grins'. I am still kinda playing around with the idea of going to his house tomorrow...there will likely be alot of fans there paying resects, dropping off flowers and the like. Does anybody here actually know the exact town/neighborhood that he lived in? It's a long-ass drive, but it would be worth it as long as I was sure of where I needed to go......anybody?

I made my tribute, this is the main image on my site now,

I went to the local music shop today, and all the dimebag series washburns were gone. Clerk said that when they opened 3 of them sold within 20 minutes  All the riff books sold too.

Darrel's licks are hard. There's just so many pick harmonics

I have owned mine for years.I keep it tuned in drop D for alot of heavy riffing. The best guitar I ever owned and it belongs to me still.I am lucky to have one of the signed ones.I bet the music shops tried to raise the prices on them bigtime.Mine appraised for around $1700 back when I got it.I would never sell it now,but i wonder what that autograph (Dimebag CFH '98) makes it worth now?

I can't help but start riffing out "WALK" everytime I pick it up.That was my favorite from VDOP.I can play Cemetary gates and CFH too.Dime was a very articulate player and had a unique style and tone.

I wanted to get one of those Randall "Warhead" 300watt stacks that Dime used.I bet they are going to be expensive now.

Dude, I'm a 'It's on!' type of guy....I want to go tomorrow really bad but need a guide. ;) So, if you're serious, I'd love to see the Clubhouse. Maybe we could get a couple of guys their for brews tomorrow night?

If I left right now I wouldnt make it until tomorrow night. Plus, I would want to take my GN since my suburban isnt that great of a road car and the GN needs a pulsator to stay running. :(

I wish everything was in order around here. I would go in a heartbeat.

Bring it on.Its a BYOB all nude joint. Some of the finest women in Dallas.Dimes guitars are all over the walls.Got to meet the band a few times there.Never had to approach them. They would just come up and say how are you doing and talk a while. The best guys in music IMHO.Always had time for the fans.BTW Mayhem in person was bigger than you would ever imagine.
