Am locating the turbo on the LS, and am using a junk, [leaks oil], Chinese made T-76 w/ .81 A/R turbine hsg, T4 flange, as a mock up. [4" inlet/ 2 1/2" out, 3" split flange exh.]
I want to be sure when the hot side is all welded up, I have enough room for a larger turbo.
I want to step up to a .96, [or larger 1.10], as the eng will need it. 5.3 for sure. Maybe a 6.0.
Will the larger A/R hsg be a/any significant increase in OD?

NE suggestions as to a particular turbo?? Keep in mind this is not a race car, just your average streeter...:D
[Using junkyard engines w/ some minor upgrades.]

TIA,:)

Chuck on the LSX project I am working on, we are using a PTE 82-85 built on the GT47 chassis. It has a 1.32 housing. The outer circumference of the exhaust housing does grow when going up in numbers. How much exactly, I dont know . Im sure depending on the familiy of turbo, the amount is different.

Louie, thanks for the input. I have found some dimensional drawings that may be the answer...
Where are you locating the turbo on your project car? NE pics?

Ive got a tangential T4 .96 housing here. I can measure any dimension you want off of it. I assume if youre looking to do it cheap you will be going cast 76 compressor and a t4 style turbo. Ive got a journal GT4202R that has a journal cartridge now that the original swallowed something and bent the shaft. Its quite a bit heavier and larger than a T4 with its large divided housing and cast iron back plate if youre interested in it.

Thanks. From the drawings I've found, the mock up, in the location I now have it, I'll have room for most any turbo I may use.
I'm not going to cheap out on a turbo, but don't want to spend the kid's inheritance on one, either.:D
If I use a 6.0, turn it as high as 6500, boost @ 25#, what may you suggest as a choice? Might you have something to fill the bill?
[I see some good results w/ the BW S400SX-75]

the turbo will be in the factory battery area. Ill take some pics during the weekend.
