I'm tring to decide which scan tool is best...my OTC 4000 isnt cutting it. I have read all the feature comparisons on Direct Scan and Turbolink, but I'd like to hear some user feedback on pros and cons on the units... Thanks

I have turbolink and I like it. The displays are simple and the dash board is easy to read and you can record untill your hard drive is full. the only thing that I didnt care for was the cable. I had to tie all the plugs together on the cable to keep it from coming apart but it was no big deal. I havent seen direct scan yet. Did you try to down load the demo from turbo link?

Thanks Ash, thats the kind of info I was after...I'' check out that demo download. By the way, where in Ca. are you?

I loooove my Directscan. If you're a numbers nerd, it gives ridiculous amounts of data, since it's not limited by the ALDL port. 15 frames per second, so you can check numbers at any point. But the lack of boost sensing hardware is definitely a minus. I like the interface better on the new Turbolink, but DirectScan gives a TON of data and I doubt I would go with anything else.

turbo link dosnt come with a boot cable link thingy eather.

I have T-Link and have used it for many years on my daily driver. With boost sensing option also. I think it's perfect.

I've seen Direct Scan and for me there's toooo much info. If you love numbers as someone else said, it would be OK.

One part of the equation that hasn't been mentioned....

Ken Mosher has the greatest support offered. If you have a problem he'll be there in a flash to help.

then how come my turbo link 4.0 didnt come with boost thingy?

I have Direct Scan and love it, I personally dont think there can possibly be too much info if you are trying to figure out a problem, and you don't have to read every number all the time, its just nice to have the extra info and faster frame rates. JMHO

Thanks for all the input. It looks like I really cant go wrong with either set-up. My home pc blew up friday nite, so I couldn't post any replies until now. Thanks again for all the help

I went with DS for the update rate. At 1 frame per 1.5 seconds, a 12 second run will give you 9 frames of info. Thats just not enough for me. OK, if you have the fast update code, then you can double that, but still 18 frames of data versus 216 frames. I'll go with the extra data, so that you can see exactly what the car does down the entire 1/4 mile. TL is a good program though.

Thanks BLACK6PACK, I really think that's the deciding factor, other than that they are fairly equal
