I just built one. Perhaps a little overkill but I had the metal lying around.

I built one a few years back. Similar to 77 cruiser but uses a round top (two pipe support brackets) got the idea from the Snap-on tool catalog. I built a smaller fixture for tailshaft adjustment, bolts to the motor mount area. Both tools usable on almost any transmission and motor stand or bench mount. I also built a pump puller for the front pump. :)

First tranny apart....yahoo.

This is one I bought in 1999 when the Nats were in Columbus. The guy had paid $2000 for a brand new rebuild in Florida, drove it to Columbus and it started to slip badly going into second. He then bought another one from Art Carr for $2000. I bought his old one for $250 and brought it home.

Once home I looked at it and noticed a rubber seal sticking out of the side of the accumulator. The original assembler had pinched the seal on the cover. I put the seal back and hoped it would work but after putting it into a car it still would slip badly going into second. I put it on the shelf where it's sat for 7 years.

So it's now apart. I assume the second gear band wore out quickly from lack of pressure since it would have been leaking like crazy but since I don't know how thick the band is supposed to be this is just a quess.

Next part of the video which I'm following, is how to inspect it, then reassemble it.

If this tranny actually works once finished I'll put Bruce and Len out of business.
