Do 3800 bearings fit the 3.8?

I've been away for 10 years and have a motor apart getting the itch to put it together from my 17 year old grandson.

Somewhere I read to use 95 Buick 3800 bearing for rods. Do they come in oversizes to take up the slack in polishing the crank? .001-.002 mains, and same for oversize on rods.

I've got .002 on the mains and 1.5-1.8 on the rods using bearings I got from Advance.

Any feedback would be helpful or just keep what i have and get it back together!
Thanks

yep. the 3800 rod bearings are wider and match our rods and crank much better than the bearings we're supposed to use. Based on my personal experience the Federal Mogul A-series fit pretty snug.

Any idea how much you polished off the crank and what the vertical clearance is on the block?

They are a true drop in part in every sense of the word.

(and our bearings don't need a chamfer as we have rolled fillet journals instead of radiused journals.)
