My car has had idle problems, and a very bad stumbling problem. Most of the idle problem has been taken care of I think, but the stumble WILL NOT go away, and it still dies at red lights. We have tried everything, and I mean everything to no avail. The car has been tuned and retuned, and many, many parts relaced. The car pulls like mad, but the tip in stumble and dying remains. I am thinking of trying a Thrasher chip just for the hell of it. What do you guys think??? Go for it, or waste of time? Whats different about the programming of these chips, and who on the board sells them now?? I've tried everything else whats another 25 bucks. TIA...Mark

Scott Simpson sells Thrashers. Thrasher's are not advertised to take a faulty car and fix it, though. Everything has to be in good shape for you to realize the benefits of a Thrasher. Even so, I would recommend that you get one. Reasons: every car is a little different and responds to chips a little differently, maybe your problem is the current chip (unlikely), the Thrasher is a good chip to have in any case.

Mark, mine has the same tip in stumble. Mine maybe in tuning as I have no scan tool. The only thing I have set is the tps sensor. I bought a thrasher and have not been able to crank the car since I got it as I had to get a new maf pipe also. Should be able to crank it tomorrow. I also need a transmission or front pump, but that's another story for another time.:D

Well I have tried numerous chips and ecm's but never a Thrasher. Do you know his screen name or email address. Thanks a lot Ken.

Mark

Good luck with that Gary, if I can help you with anything just let me know. I'm on your side of the pond now:)

Striker have you talked to Jim Testa about it? I see you have his chip now. Are you using a stock MAF? My car idled much better after getting an LT1 MAF and translator. Of course $300 is a lot more than $25

Scott231 is the guy on the board that sells Thrashers, though I think the 009 chip is experimental.

009's used to be famous for that stumble when they came out, maybe you just need an updated chip. I would have Testa reburn it, will probably be close to the cost of a Thrasher

Mark, Scott is Scott231 on this board. Do you still have the stock MAF? I had idle and tip in stumble untill I replaced it and the IAC. The LT1 MAF, translator, and especially the Extender chip made my car run smoothly, although you are talking about some $$ here. I recommend the street or 100 race Thrasher (I ran my T on that).

Thanks guys, I am willing to try anything at this point. I talked to Jim T awhile back and he was gonna try and help me, but that was during the time he was moving and I guess he was snowed under or something. I am runnning the stock maf, and thought about the translator deal, but have tried several known good maf's with no luck. We just swapped injectors from a friends GN that runs perfectly, I thought surely that would be it, but no. They were also 009's. Also put it on a smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks, there are none. The tps and iac are both new, but both came from autozone. Maybe I should try gm parts, I just dont know. Not one to give up, but this thing is pushing me. Thanks again for the input guys...Mark

Thrasher

I believe a Thrasher will only support up to a TA 49 turbo.Bruce

Well scratch that idea then I guess. Thanks Bruce, you saved me from yet even more frustration. Anybody see any other options for me besides finding the nearest cliff??

IAC is new, but what do the counts look like at idle? While cruising? ANy scan tool data or SES codes?

Thrasher chips can support any turbo, the issue is your 009's. They are only made for stock (30lbs will work OK) or 36lb injectors.

Doug, I have tried Iac counts as low as 3, as high as 30, and every where in between. That is fully warm, and in park. I think they are around 19 when I'm cruising now. Have tried all ranges within the tps as well. Tried backing off a little on the cam sensor, and ultimately replaced the cam sensor and the drive, set with Caspers tool. Fuel filter is brand new, tried all kinds of different fuel pressure. XP pump is also brand new. Also replaced the egr at some point a few months back. Just trying to remember everything, but so far nothing has worked. Thanks...Mark

Maybe you could do a direct scan recording of your warmed up, car idling, in drive, and then get it to stumble on the recording. Email it out so people can look at it (me included). Maybe more eyes on it will help.

Eric

Have you tried advancing the cam sensor. I remember a post that a guy slightly advanced the cam sensor and it eliminated the stumble.

Eric, thanks for the hospitality I will get the laptop charged up and do that. Might send another one to Jimmy T, see whats he thinks.

ES1, you know what, I did do that before I made a lot of changes recently, and remember it helping. It usually idled better with the cam sensor unplugged in batch mode too, leading me to ultimately replace the cam sensor. I am going to back it off 3/16 and see what happens. Thanks man, good point!

Thrasher and turbo

I contacted Scott when I was interested in a Thrasher chip.I was told anything bigger than a TA 49 and a Thrasher would not work.I may still have the email.Bruce

I have to say ES1 took my Idea... If you're talking about Sleeper-6 and his problems he's on my fire co. w/me. His problems are gone and everything is looking good. I second playing with the cam sensor

Bruce, I would like to see that e-mail also. I'm having problems with the Thrasher and my new combo. Thanks, Paul
