Do I need a Transmission...or just spring cleaning?!?

Hey guy's...

Car has 74,000 miles no tranny probs to date...

My transmission is starting to slip a little, like if I'm hard on it, it's a lil sluggish b/t the gears...and also, if I downshift to pass someone, it takes like a second longer than it's supposed to...so...with that said...

1. What filter to get (I've heard that getting a 700r4 filter was better than the 200r's)?

2. Where should I install the drain plug for the next time I do this?

3. Should I go ahead and fill the transmission back up with Ford "type F" (I heard this was a good thing also... )

4. While I'm down there, should I get a deeper pan, and if so, from who?!?

I bought the car last year, and have not serviced the tranny since I've owned it...I guess it's time.

How many quarts are going to come out when I take the pan off...so I can prepare the correct size bucket...

700 filter will work, but may short on the 4th gear switch- wrap with a piece of rubber to isolate it.
I think you can expect 6 quarts to come gushing out. Maybe more, its been awhile since I did a tranny flush. I had a 10 quart pan and didnt fill it (for whatever thats worth..lol)

A deeper pan will hold more fluid, if its finned it will help dissapate heat. Bruce (PTS)carrys one I am sure, as well as some of the other vendors (Cotton's, for one...)

You might want to have a shop flush out the converter as well if you suspect contamination. I would pull the pan, check the fluid and go from there. Make sure you TV cable is set properly also, a loose adjustment will cause slipping and flaring of the shifts.

I am sure some of the experts will chime in here..
I am by no means an expert, but with all my vehicles ability to eat trannys maybe I should become one
