do wide wide band o2 wear out?

I've heard rumor of a WB sensor going out from running race fuel all the time, but I've only seen it happen on time. I've got a friend that has run F.A.S.T. on his '94 Firebird for years with the same sensor, running 118 octane fuel, and it still functions as normal.

However, I have another friend whose o2 died while going down the track and it grenaded the motor (or at least that's all we could figure happened to it).

As for cost, I think you have to get the sensor directly from F.A.S.T. or one of their dealers, but I could be wrong.
