Any members here play a Dobro or so called Resonator Slide Guitar. I play a regular guitar for years and am thinking of getting one for playing delta style blues and maybe some Bluegrass. Any tips out there. I am familiar with open tuning and types of slides etc. Just looking for opinions on makes and styles. Anyone?

Sorry, brother- never dabbled there. Yamaha RGX-A2, Fender DCE-22, and an old Ibanez bass for me.....

Confucious say..good bro not cheap...cheap bro not good

good one will set you back a tidey sum that I can say, Ive never owned one but ive had over 10 diff box guitars

the good ones sound like heaven

You mean to say with all you Southern, Tobacco chewin rednecks on this board, there aren't more Bluegrass or Blues players? I am a little surprised. Gotta be a few. :)

Not here- progressive rock/blues and "hair metal" out this way.....

SouthernCal GN, Your location says WA. I am not surprised that you are into rocker/blues. Plenty of great players out your way. That is pretty much mainstream here also. No offence intended. I am into that too. I do appreciate your comments. I am just trying to expand my horizons a little with a different sound\style. I just figured there would be more deep south pickers on the board. I know it's a popular instrument the lower down into the southeast you go. Just looking for comments and input from other musicians. I have looked into reviews online and have a pretty good idea what I am looking for.

I have one Dobro (the real deal) and 2 National Guitars (Single cone and Tri-cone).
The dobro is the "Delphi Hula model" and the National is a "Delphi" (No longer made) and a "Style 1".

IMO, for Delta blues slide  (What I play) you want a Single cone National.
It has the raw Delta Blues sound whereas the Tr-Cone has the mellower sound, but better sustain.
I won't buy anything but a National anymore. The quality and workmanship is unbelievable!

AS stated, you get what you pay for.
Do not get one of the "Johnson" guitar. They are ... well, ....... cheap, and sound that way as well.
Good luck!

Edit:
My all time favorite "Resophonic Guitar" is still the 1934 Single Cone National Triolian.
It is the one Son House played. National Triolian resonator Dobro guitar info vintage 1928 to 1938
A friend of mine has one, and I tell you, the sound is undeniably Blues!

Thanks man. The National seems to be a great sounding guitar, well as far as I can hear on Youtube. I will look into pricing up here.

I play bluegrass. I play the guitar though. I have a couple of pickin buddies that play dobro. One has the Mike Aludrigde model beard. It sounds great with a deeper tone. The other buddie has a Sheerhorn, it has a very bright and crisp tone. Both are great, but they cost around 3500 to 4000 bucks:eek: You would not be disapointed in either of these.

Great input. Thanks. Might be a little pricey for a hack like me lol, but all advice appreciated. You never know.
